  • It's true, the bathroom connected to our guest bedroom doesn't get a lot of use. We keep that lid up with the bathroom door closed (to keep the cats out of the water) to avoid the mold. I've never encountered that problem on a toilet used even once a week though.

  • We've had indoor cats that keep trying to sneak out. Something that has worked great to convince them that it's a bad idea is to to use an air horn (not aimed at them, not close to them, just to make a sudden loud unfamiliar noise). Stand outside the door with the horn. Open the door and let them get curious. As soon as they set one paw outside the door frame, fire a quick blast. It's only taken doing it 2-3 times, and they all learned fast that it's scary out there.

    I don't really like scaring them that way, but it's better than getting hit by a car, lost, or eaten by a predator.

  • Ok... That exactly what I said in the comment you replied to. You are just angrily agreeing with me now.

    The only part that differs is that this bill preemptively takes the phone from them, even if they have a good history of using it responsibly. That's the part I disagree with. Take the phone only when there is a history of abuse from a particular student, not all the time, every time.

  • Except that's not how phones actually work in the "real" world. Adults have phones on them all the time (with very few exceptions). There aren't "phone police" preemptively taking their phones from them during meetings. They need to learn self control, and forcing them not to have the phone available doesn't teach that. I'm all for making them put their phone in a basket for a time period if they show they can't control themselves, that teaches them, but it shouldn't be the default.

  • Probably an unpopular opinion, but this is dumb. Schools should be teaching kids how to responsibly deal with phones instead of just banning them. They are going to have phones once they graduate and they should be learning responsible ways to integrate that in to their adult life

  • Hell yes to this. Childhood, Highschool, and even in to college were some of the worst years of my life. I never want to repeat them. Sometimes I fantasize about what it would have been like to be "normal", but I love who I am now and l do not want to give that up or go back.

  • I'll give that a try, but I'm not expecting it to work. All the other solutions have cause the feed to "rubber band" around randomly as I scroll when the shorts are dynamically removed from the feed.

  • They key thing to know is that they don't actually remember anything. They are completely stateless. Every question, every reply, every interaction needs to have the entirety of the conversation history fed back in to it. That's actually what the "context" is. It would be like talking to a person, and every time you spoke you had to repeat everything you've ever said to them (and what they said to you!) before you could say something new. It's insanely inefficient and why they require data centers the size of a small city. "Agents" are even worse, because they talk to themselves and each other in loops, but still have to repeat that context for every single interaction.
