  • There's also the folks that try to discourage folks from participating in political change, be it by voting or protest by saying both sides are bad and it doesn't matter what we do.

    It's a tellingly consistent message, that first began showing up in the last US presidential election.

    We host a free cookout at the end of our block every week. Nothing fancy, hotdogs and smores, chips, beers, water, soda... Every time someone walks by we ask them, hey, want a hotdog? All kinds of folks show up -- white middle class, punks, fellow queerios, Black and Latinx neighbors, kids, teenagers, sr citizens...

    Sometimes we block off a section of the roundabout and play four-square

    Absolutely the best thing I've seen for building relationships -- community --within the few blocks radius.

    No permits, zero affiliation with "open streets" (cop funded) or any other municipal grant.

  • Yes, I definitely make use of rsync for backups of specific directories, so, in this case, no data would have been lost if I had relied solely on timeshift. But it's a very convenient way of snapshotting the whole system.

    Timeshift is essentially a gui on top of rsync anyway, if you look at what it's doing behind the scenes.
