  • For me, the deciding point comes from what color they made the merchandise. You'll find a rare item in green, but 90% of the items out there are in yellow.

    To me, that's a decision to make yellow canon.

  • Honestly, not a popular option, but I usually just ignore them.

    All mine do is hang out on the crown moulding until they starve or leave. I didn't even know some could fly for years. I've never personally noticed a stench with the ones that starve. Me and my daughter like to name them.

  • I would say clear coat it, but if you're doing that, you might as well paint it and I know that may be more than you want to get into.

    My process is covering with a light coat of plastruct, sand it (around 800 grit usually gets it done), prime it, then clear coat and it usually looks better than new. Clear coat alone will go a long way.

    Our rule is if the spider stays in his world we leave it alone, if it's in ours, they may be out of luck. The doorway is a neutral zone along with usually the entryway and questionably the kitchen.

    As far as I can tell the originating controversy with Bob Martin was in relation to some tweets Bob made regarding immigration and the process for separating children/parents.

    It's designed to populate the schedules of other people so they can justify their positions. It's a problem with increasingly larger portions of the corporate world.

    Raw material costs seems to be the primary problem.

  • Yeah, but these are not exactly complex parts, especially compared to RAM/etc. RAM fabrication is orders of magnitude more difficult than the parts we're looking at here.

    I'm not saying it's something someone could get going tomorrow, but beyond the PCB for the PSU everything else is fairly standard and mostly interchangeable. People have made PSUs in their basements. And, for CPU coolers, it's effectively a piece of metal with a fan attached. If we've lost the capability to machine more aluminum and copper I feel like our problems have evolved beyond computer hardware.

  • Are there notable constraints for 'just making more' of these items?

    Like I know short term shortages are possible for everything, but what components of a PSU or Cooler are difficult to source or manufacture? Combined with consumer versions of these not typically having a lot of direct overlap with their datacenter counterparts, do we really think this is going to be a major issue?

  • 12 Angry Men is a hard one to top, a great movie that has been consistently kind of a let down when they try to remake it.

    Beyond 12 Angry Men though, can't believe no one has even brought up Ben Hur or the 10 Commandments. Oh man, the original Strangers on a Train was in the 50s too. Lots of movies too that may not hold up in modern times but made entire genres or concepts viable. Notable shout out for Harvey and North by Northwest.

  • Hold yourself accountable, that's only twice a week. Don't have expectations, go to the gym and do 10 squats and go home. Hell, go to the gym parking lot and get taco bell on the way back and count it as a win. Give yourself breaks and make it easy for you to succeed.

    Every step even if it seems small and inconsequential gets you closer to your real goal. You don't have to be perfect, every step closer is progress.

  • I feel like it's possible that there will be a shift away from the internet. It feels like we're racing to enshittifying the internet as much as possible and eventually that will just be the assumption people have at every corner and it just won't be something people turn to unless they have a task to complete that requires it. Even when the reason for enshittification isn't corporate greed it's to propaganda bots or the miraculous ability of one person to ruin everything for surprisingly large groups.

    That's honestly my most hopeful take. I've got a lot of books on raising goats. Might get some donkeys.

  • I know this may not be a useful point, but just wanted to note that paying the equivalent of €380 here in the US would be an absolutely crazy price for a used edition of one of those. I'd expect those to go for the equivalent of 65-70 euros at the low end, around 100 fully loaded with the most useful parts. Even with international shipping, I'd think you could do drastically better.

    From personal experience though, I run 4 of the Lenovo Tinys in my lab currently. I can highly recommend the M700/M900 line, M920 if you can get it, but the M70Q is fine.
