  • You'd think so, but from what I've personally heard at least... Anthropic seems to mostly be doing right by the community with their contributions like this. I could be falling for the propaganda, but guys are even backing groups pushing for stronger AI guardrails and oversight.

  • It's even worse, the structure we have actively discourages them from doing so. Fiduciary responsibility is thrown up as a reason for a lot of things like this and knowingly picking an option that is less profitable on paper even if it's obviously better long term is inviting questions.

  • I'm interested in what happens to it as it moves through the digestive system.

There are some incredibly hazardous waste products that are very difficult and expensive to dispose of.

  • Exactly, great for things like recipes too, they've created an amazing path to making nearly every SEO strategy worthless. I don't need to read your grandma's biography to find out how you make sourdough bread. And usually, when it is wrong it's very wrong, so if it's an area you have a base level of knowledge in it's fairly easy to pick out the inconsistencies.

  • Honestly, if I don't need it to be super-accurate, AI summaries have become the best ad-blockers I've ever had.

  • Just wait til a single TV show clip catches your interest. Shorts are desperate to get us out of our curated bubbles.

  • Disagree, in my old age I quite enjoy some of that hate and bitterness. Just got to make sure you can justify it.

  • Some of it is incompetence, but some is... more complicated incompetence. A lot of the weirdness you see is where some executive somewhere had a problem that affected him and had enough money/clout to throw around that they could make whatever just happen. Microsoft is the worst at this.

  • A lot of paramilitary organizations are suddenly showing a lot of interest in the things on Github.

  • I do want to hear the story of the physicist when they got to making up the names for charm and just strange. I imagine many sleepless nights.

  • Paul Giamatti was acting like no one told him he couldn't win another Oscar for his performance there for a minute.

  • You're a perfect physical specimen, not for long, let us destroy that by making you sit here and watch this screen for the next 25 years.

  • Under 31, retire by 56 is specifically due to the pension requirements. It's to make sure anyone who is hired is eligible for it when they have to retire. It requires 25 years of service.

I haven't seen anything specifically denoting why you have to retire by age 56 but it's implied that it's just because younger people tend to have faster reaction times and are better at multitasking, etc.

  • If you need to exit vim, just open a new terminal and reboot the machine.

  • Learning about buoyancy in relation to quicksand is a helluva thing. You panic thinking you're going to sink and drown but then you stop not even half way and realize it's just more annoying mud but at the beach.

  • The trash talking on AI is half people with legitimate concerns on the societal and ecological impact and the other half just want to be in on the party and aren't interested in understanding it. It's useful like googling things is useful, the items you search for are not always correct, but if you have a basic level of knowledge it'll help you get where you want to be much faster.

Nothing quite compares to Claude Opus in a cohesive package that I'd recommend for an average self hoster but I personally really like running Nemotron from Nvidia. It's not the best model, but in my experience it's consistently good enough along with being fast and stable. If you're focused more on coding, I hear the Qwen series had some good models.

  • This is true with all things in life, but with enough money, most problems fade away.

Banks will tend to drop most of those requirements in exchange for higher minimum balances and potentially fees. The amount of money you need for this will vary wildly country to country.

  • Was really hoping this was going to be a cult based on Lateralus by Tool.

If you did have to pick a song to make a cult off of, it's a damn good song.

  • Religious tolerance is important even when you're vibe coding.
