  • That is also the philisophical crux of The Witcher series (books and games, not the TV show now starring the least-hot hemsworth)

  • Support for what ever she decides is next, although I feel like the senate would be a better step. However the democrats dont really have a face to back that isnt some centerist that thinks its ok to play with the bully after they have taken your lunch money or someone that is older than Wonder Bread (tm).

  • Im at step 2 of 3, and feel about the same. Do I regret what I did when I was younger, somewhat, it was just cringe until ~27... Would I slap the shit out of my younger unmotivated ass, absolutely.

  • The most unbelievable part of that entire film is that President Dwayne Elizondo Mountian Dew Herbert Camacho didnt take credit for solving the crisis at the end of the movie.

  • Fair, plus the law never looked kindly on it. Just because you would get dressed up to shoot at some one does not mean you didnt shoot someone.

  • Idiocracy.

  • Back in the day, honor was a more tangible thing. People with beef would shoot at each other with smooth bore pistols. The point was they were wildly inaccurate and most people would stand their ground and walk away, honor intact. That isnt a thing in [checks year]... Guns are far too accurate, swords are very out of fashion, and Chess-Boxing never really took off. There does not appear to be a modern evolution of that tradition and I feel like society would do well to find something to fill that void (without the lethality... obviously... but that was partially the point back then).

  • VLAN setting are probably your best bet to prevent communication with your normal devices and lock the IOT devices off in their own section of the network where they cant snoop around. Same goes for Wi-Fi, make a new SSID for just IOT stuff and let them only see themselves and the default gateway.

  • Yah... You dont own your OS on W11, you had better script those changes or they might be reverted on major updates. (They do that for the default browser all the time, and they will likely break that script every year or two)

This is why the [gestures broadly to Lemmy community] evangalizes for Linux so much, everyone is going have to learn a new OS anyway. Aside from what ever Apple is doing, there really are only two choices, a free and open source suite of software that is trusted because everything is public and auditable, or an OS that activly contributes to the creation of the Torment Nexus. We do get that some applications wont work on linux, but my response to that is to look for a new version anyway, your living on borrowed time. Windows 11 is rolling full speed ahead on breaking compatibility with everything Microsoft did not make (and therefore cant update to collect data on you).

  • Plus they have a club card (because I sure as hell dont).

  • Im more suprised that you didnt double take about the US trying to fight a giant bird (and losing).

<3 love our friends from the land down under, that history bit is just so funny.

  • Actually less and for a good reason, the doom scroll is not endless.

We have a fraction of the population and a few good posts and discussions on the places I have not blocked. Over all its a lot healthier and I still get my fix of feeling informed-ish. Also Jeboa does not display total votes an account gets meaning there is no "must have X karma to ride" pages that, while attempting to remove bots (it didnt), fills a room with crowd pleasers instead of those seeking discussion or answers.

  • How is this different from the Lemmy devs, who are known to be pretty political? I was under the impression we were mostly fine seperating the program from the programmer, or is this situation different?

  • I dont have issues with math, its helpful for [gestures broadly to everything].

You are right, how it was taught in schools (US) is a miserable failure. A focus on practical applications so the people can do their taxes and budgeting, understand probability and how statistics are used in reporting (and how they are misused), and spending more time on the metric system would go a long way.

  • Harsh

  • I understood that reference.

  • Calling it now, they are waiting for 47 to kick the bucket before they move forward because they cant impeach vance over what ever leverage is in there.

  • I think they know a few, they will be fine.

  • Last time this happened, the indicators that something was up was Vance not being able to keep his mouth shut and tweeting about it. Along with a 300% increase in take out pizza orders at near the pentagon.

I cant imagine they are fully staffed right now, but if I find out something happened because an inordinary number of feds need to get late night pizza, Ill eat my shoe.

  • This is 100% correct in the IT world. I have a split IT dept due to mergers (its a whole thing, people are fighting to not give up knowlage on systems so their position looks useful to mgmt... its fucked) and the other side of the fence are the most useless window-lickers ever because their tier 1 just closes things almost at random to bump their numbers up.
