I mean, America likes to destroy civilizations (a country that has Native genocide as its origin story), it's the anti-civ "civ" after all, so I guess it is an American failure. Now, those now left in power in Iran could still sell off the country to Western oligarchs, which would be a victory for America but that's still seemingly undecided.
Definitely my dad. Just an irresponsible, immature, shallow, hedonistic, unstable, violent and dishonest silly man. And from what I understand, my grandpa might have been even worse (but I don't think my dad met him until he was in his 30s). I've had to rewrite my brain many times to unfuck whatever his presence fucked up but, as malleable as the mind and brain are, some things can't change and I just have to live with them.
He wasn't 99% evil or anything, but that's rare if even possible. He was definitely more selfish, problematic and uncaring than not though, and he messed with enough lives that Hell is more than warranted for him, I think. 🤔
It changed the perspective on American imperialism and Israel for at least one generation in the US so I understand these villainous moves. Gotta keep Western narratives alive and unchallenged or else the dummies might wake up!
I stopped drinking cause what was the point by then? I only drank when I went out with my mates and we only went out for horny reasons (I don't like sports, I'm a semi shut-in geek 🤓). Personally, I don't think the effects are fun enough to counteract all the physical discomfort that comes with it, starting with the taste even, and let's not even talk about the social consequences of drinking excessively. But I think (as potentially blasphemous as it may be) that there's room for a cheeky drink here and there, that it's not necessarily problematic or immoral in these particular scenarios... but how easy do people in cultures who socialize around alcohol almost exclusively keep to it without falling into addiction and dependency? 🤔
I drank for most of my life but once I met my now wife I didn't see the point of it, since it was entirely related to my horniness and trying to get in a skirt chasing "wolf mode". I also converted to Islam so that definitely pushed me more in that direction, lol, and I haven't drank in almost a decade. I'm not shy and/or self-conscious so it doesn't benefit me in that way (a couple of drinks is more than enough for these kind of folks, or at least should be) and I'm too reckless and easily triggered into aggression (way more so the past but still) so nah, not for me... my substance has always been cannabis anyway. 🫣😅
Are you making a meta joke that I'm just too dumb to understand? Where exactly is the misogyny here? Half of the world is women, some of them will do things that are questionable or just plain silly/funny, and jokes will be made. 🤔
How would you explain it? Is it the afterlife you're communicating with or with the disembodied souls of those roaming the earth? What are they doing here, if it's the latter? And what are you basing this on if it's the former? Western European mythology, meaning either Elysium/Valhalla or idk whatever forest fairy kingdom Germanics believed in? Or are you going full Semitic monotheism, Heaven and Hell stuff? Cause idk if Jewish or Muslim tradition allows for seances. 🤔
Anyway I'm just being too serious for no reason, lol, most people wouldn't drop a book simply because their cosmology is nonsensical. I would, though. 😅
I mean, of course. "Everyone's doing immoral stuff so let's just allow it, legalize it even" is the take of a person who's either simply uncaring, extremely lazy/helpless or benefiting in some way from it. Those are not characteristics of anyone respectable, right?
It's a word, first of all. Cancer can progress, it doesn't mean it's in everyone's best interest, lol.
Let's just use the word "change". Would the society I live in benedit from change? Certainly! In many aspects, and not so much in others (fish and chips and farmer markets can stay as they are, for example, but binge drinking, consumerism, extreme self-centeredness and hedonistic sexual practices should become a thing of the past and stay there).
And no, my main goal is to please God by being a prosocial element in the universe we've been given for free, as righteous and pious as I can be within reasonable expectations. In a way, it has necessitated personal progress, as I've had to learn to live with the emotional instability that comes with ADHD and childhood trauma, trying my best to remain calm and not explode/start swinging. I've learned to care about people even if their lives don't impact me in any way, I've learned to be more flexible and understanding instead of just trying to impose my POV and disregard others as foolish nonsense. With God's and my wife's help, I feel like I've made much progress, and hopefully I still have more years to develop. But I've many other traits I'm pleased with and would not like to change, and others that aren't problematic enough to be worth the effort of making changes.
As such, change/"progress" has been a means to an end, not the end by itself. And if your goal was just "progress"/change, how would you know when to stop? How would you measure success, either total or partial? 😅
You can lend money, just don't make profit out of it. I lend money all the time to friends and have never asked for anything in return except for the amount I gave, and even then it's better to let go of that. But ofc in the absence of moral ideology and values, people won't know right from wrong, won't police themselves and society will slowly degenerate. Only in a dysfunctional group do you have to enforce basic things all the time and for everyone instead of just a minority of antisocial misfits/mentally ill individuals (and, personally, I just refuse to capitulate to immorality just because it exists, that's for lesser men).
You can't be moral and prosocial without also being anti-West (anti imperialism, moral relativism and "might makes right" as your only real value, not anti sauerkraut and the Mona Lisa, evidently). And that doesn't mean pro anything else besides what being anti-West rejects. For the Africa part... there just aren't that many African people here, I'm assuming, for those posts to be big. Same with Latin American posts. Also, China affects the rest of the world and is a "big player" so it makes sense they'd be talked about often.
Welcome btw! And where in Africa are you from?
Ps: also you've been here for a day and all you've done is comment acceptable Western narratives... Are you lying on the internet, mister?!
The Nazi tattoos aren't enough for any large political affiliation in America to disqualify him but maybe this will do the trick? Lol. Probably not, the libs want a saviour (and the alternative is openly devilish white supremacist hedonistic capitalists, so I understand their position to a certain degree).
He's just more open about his immorality. And like I've said before, the fact the current admin doesn't even feel like they should waste resources in hypocrisy and somewhat believable narratives is an indictment on American society.
Americans are big on symbols cause actual reality is a confusing mirage to them, and they're very shallow, so maybe that would be the one thing that would unite America against Trump? Lol.
Ehhhh, idk, I'm not formally part of any fandom, I just yap about it online when the opportunity arises, but I'd probably say Dune? And this is not very controversial amongst book readers (most of the current fandom came from Denis' movies) but the recent movies both left many important book passages/scenes out (the dinner party, for example) and also unnecessarily and to the movies' detriment changed some characters in very fundamental ways. And I'm not even talking about sex/gender cause sometimes that doesn't change much of the narrative, but other stuff like Chani being just a sassy New Yorker instead of an extremely mature 15 yo with big responsibilities in her tribe, or the superficial "religious schism" subplot in the second movie, which is certainly relatable/acceptable to the average Western 20 something but is incompatible with Fremen society as Herbert wrote it.
Instead, Denis made a very pretty movie with long, silent shots... but Dune is anything but silent, it's heavy in dialogue and internal monologues like Legend of the Galactic Heroes. A bit of a disappointment but, hey, the first movie pushed me to get a COVID vaccine shot quickly so I guess something good came out of it? 😅
