Not really but this one time, a long time ago when I was a preteen, I was on holiday with the fam and I kinda snuck into the kitchen and started yapping with the cooks (I have that ADHD 👍). Anyway, it was two ladies and one dude and the dude was talking about how he's gonna be a dad and he's so happy and the lady next to him had a big pregnant belly so I congratulated them both ("of course that's his partner, that's just how it is"- my kid brain). She wasn't pregnant, nor was she his partner, and at least both ladies laughed... I apologised, went back to ask for pancakes, and went back to my mom feeling very embarrassed. 🫣😅
If you don't know who you are, who you want to be and what you're meant to do here, how can you ever be satisfied? How can you know your reaching authentic, meaningful goals? 🤔
I mean, God's judgment is pretty scary, lol. Without taking Hell into consideration, If even He thinks I'm a cunt then there's no way around it, and that's a big blow to one's self-esteem!
In this world... probably my wife dying early. I'd rather die before her like most men do, and perhaps I could tolerate her going first and me waiting some a year or so, heartbroken and fading, but anything else is just too much. 😔
No, he's mentally ill and somewhat stupid/unserious and has been done dirty by Ashkenazi Jews by his own admission (doctors and lawyers) so he has a bit of a hate boner against them. Any member of the American and Israeli army is way more morally reprehensible and more of "a Nazi" (unless you only consider the lives of Western and Eastern Europeans important, ofc) than a cuckoo artist known for saying wild shit even before his menty b.
My dad was part of a masonic lodge later on in life and, what I got from meeting a couple of his colleagues and talking to him about it, it really wasn't that interesting. It's basically a social space for older men with some connections/money and a lot of rituals (which my dad described very giddily, lol, the superficial fool). Most likely influential in some way (as any group of uhh "funny" old men with reach can be) but kinda meh... it didn't seem like he learned anything transcendental or important from his time there.
Are you just gambling (trading is a euphemism in this case, lol) for any more transcendental reasons than you just "getting the bag"? People like to feel useful, and there are few things one can do with their time that is less useful for society than this, you're not providing the world with any goods or services! But I understand realistically you're not gonna change your whole life and relationship with money up so I'd say, in this one month, you should start exploring why you're alive (besides inertia/hedonism) because "grinding" (you're "trading" not washing dishes in a busy restaurant, lol) leads nowhere and then you'll realize you "wasted" not just 6 months but decades.
And ofc spend time and cherish your loved ones. If you have a month free and are not hurting for cash, travelling a bit or just spending quality time with those people is a good idea. 👍
Only about belief (from cosmology to ethics), not material reality. And yes, they're two fields that simply cannot mix, but the latter can lead to/point towards the former.
Sorry, I don't know much about Assange but how can it be probable he raped someone "under Swedish law"? Do you just mean Sweden has different definitions for rape and that he might have done something fitting one of those definitions (but we cannot be sure of it because of lack of evidence)? Or something else I'm missing?
Nobody, really, not even my dad, who was a highly erratic, hedonistic, vain, angry and two-faced man.
I read books/texts written by men with varying degrees of wisdom and maturity (or written about them), took what I found important and spoke to me and discarded the rest. If we're being honest, two certainly made an impact on me and made me feel "seen": Diogenes and Jesus. Solomon came much later (and Muhammad, for those who believe, was just accurately sharing a message from the Divine so I don't know if I can include him here), in my mid 20s, so I'm not counting him. But I went through a lot of Greek and continental philosophy and there is much to learn therein, if anything to "deprogram" yourself if necessary and to learn to think in earnest, but I find many conclusions flawed and/or disruptive to uhh eudaimonia and the result of emotional instability/depression and/or getting lost in the sauce, losing connection to reality because they stayed in abstractions (Nietzsche, Schopie and Hegel, for example). Evidently, they wouldn't do, but the big dawg and the J-man? They get it. 😀
PS: I don't remember much of my maternal grandpa, but the little I do recall shows me he was a faithful and loving husband, a responsible family man, and an athletic teetotaler (my grandma drank though, lol). Now that I think about it, maybe he impacted me more than I gave him credit for, my memory is just garbage but some things remain.
Friends is an extremely boring and formulaic show, it just has handsome people in it and sometimes the ladies don't wear bras. I much prefer Seinfeld, which was in a way revolutionary for sitcoms, and it can still be enjoyed today (the laugh track is unfortunate though). It definitely inspired It's Always Sunny, another great show, whilst Friends inspired How I Met Your Mother... and you can draw your own conclusions from that. 😅
I'm glad to hear it, but I think you misread me at the end. I wasn't throwing accusations at OP, but at the downvoters who, in my view, can only fall into one of two camps.
I just noticed that the score is positive now but when I got here OP was heavily downvoted.
Meta: Why is your post downvoted? Usually I understand whatever silly ideas/immature attitudes happen to be behind them but this time I'm confused. It can't be angry mods who already feel called out, right? That would be too pathetic of them, so I don't wanna consider it.
Add to that the well known atrocities committed against the Chinese in WW2, backed and fueled by an ideology of racial supremacy, and you can see why they could see eye-to-eye with the West. 🤷
Hasn't been my experience (I haven't been to Japan yet, I know they're xenophobic, lol) but I bet they're not violent or historically, extremely inhuman about it. And if Lemmy was a majority Japanese site, I also wouldn't be surprised if most people here held some racist/xenophobic beliefs, of course! They kind of are the Germanics of the East after all, lol. Idk what this means, are you a black guy telling me "it's not just Westerners!" (ofc, there's even colourism in African communities, I know because I married into one!) for whatever reason or are you a white dude saying the same? Cause, if it's the latter, you're just making my point...
I do it all the time, even calling out my female friends on bad behaviour which is a big nono in public settings (I'm a married man, I know, lol), but it requires a soft approach (a "compliment sandwich", for instance) or else everyone starts getting sensitive and feisty, and because of that many people would just rather stay quiet and avoid doing it. In my understanding that nobody wants to be a villain/annoying cunt, I try to tell those I care about so they don't ruin their lives unnecessarily, and I'm not scared of the confrontation that might result from it as I see it as part of the process.
Right now, you're coming across as a very reasonable guy with more than appropriate communication skills... If you're asking for yourself, it would be hard to determine if there's anything weird/off-putting about you just from this post, sadly. In my experience, some of my less savoury traits HAD been called out, numerous times, but without the right attitude, wording or in a setting that would make me dismiss it. It wasn't until later when these traits showed up in shocking, scary ways, that I started putting 2 and 2 together and looking back at what people had told me about myself. Maybe I'll start a call line or discord chat where we can all interact and call each other out when necessary, in brotherly love... sounds like a fun project. 😅
I feel like it's always not POC who feel weird about it. Lemmy is a Western site, Westerners are known for being not just racist but violently racist (white supremacy is the "ideology" that allows for colonization and Transatlantic slave trade after all, and places like America have ICE for brown people and the police for black people, many of these folks will just end up being incarcerated and enslaved like back in the day), plus American current admin is openly and loudly racist amongst other things so why should it be surprising that some racist takes/vibes would be felt in a Western (mostly American?) site? You might not notice, ofc, the way a fish doesn't notice water, but you should expect it at least in theory.
You're telling on yourselves: you're either a POS white supremacist in denial, or you're weak minded and scared of potential accountability to the point you'd rather deny the experience of those who have suffered because of an ethnocultural trait of your peoples. Of course, it's better to be the latter than the former. 👍
