Migrating here (or maybe keeping both) from @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.ml

Will put an eternal curse on your enemies for a Cinemageddon invite.

  • Sure, averages are better, but nonetheless instead of being consistent and using the average for both, you use the "peak" of one and "average" of another, as if that doesn't look suspicious.

I'm not even saying the US doesn't incarcerate more people per capita, I'm saying using "peak v avg" is a bad system because at best it makes you look like a liar.

Also I'm saying you're probably a tankie if you're on lemmy defending the USSR, yeah. Walks like a duck and talks like a duck and all.

    Ёб твою мать.

  • Peak U.S. incarceration rate

The average imprisonment rate in the Soviet Union

Uh-huh. Not like that rings the statistics manipulation alarm at all or anything.

    «Is normal, ignore that товарисщ»

Some Soviet incarceration rates between 1934 and 1953 were likely the highest ever recorded for a modern nation.

Did uhhh... did you mean to paste this bit or forget to trim it before you posted? Is the US not a "modern nation?" Aren't you calling the guy who said "soviets locked up more % than current US" a "shitbag liar" while posting evidence that supports his point? The fuck is going on, were you trained on shit data? You need a better prompt or something?

  • Hey now don't forget about the Katyn Massacre!

  • I notice you didn't mention Israel or the nazis being bad either, be ideologically consistent and talk about Myanmar and Unit 731 and NK killing dissidents and everything right now then, since you have to talk about everything bad at the same time and can't focus on the topic for ONE THREAD.

    Go cry about it

  • You're right I've never heard of the US' mistreatment of black people before, why aren't more people talking about this?

OH WAIT people talk about it all the time and you just needed a convenient whataboutism. Imagine if someone brought up the Katyn Massacre every time someone talked about Jim Crow laws lmao.

  • The real trick is the bologna grilled cheese. Brown the bologna in your skillet, then (wipe out skillet if need be, and) make a grilled cheese as usual, but put the bologna in the middle before you close it.

  • One would get you ~2-3 bags of heroin but black tar heroines haven't been sold since the 1860s in the US thankfully, so I couldn't quote you a price on that.

  • Love me some Fedora, why should I switch to an immutable version? The thing that gives me pause is I like being able to change my system when I need to and have it persist, which is from what I understand the exact opposite idea of immutables (but I may be misunderstanding, thus this comment asking lol).

  • I'd have hit him with "everything but the OG three and Clone Wars cartoon is dogshit anyway, fuck off."

Whether you agree with that or not it'll probably piss him off and be funny.

  • No, when the dev was a kid he pushed another kid off the swingset and I'm pretty sure it was racially motivated. Better just move into the woods and use only stone and wood tools you make yourself, just to be safe! Never know who could have done what, the people who are "good" probably just haven't been caught being bad yet.

  • They seem to simultaneously be ineffective at anything, but also responsible for all the evil in the world

Why does that sound so familiar? Hmm....

    OH. Uh-oh.

  • So transphobia and authoritarianism are totally cool just as long as they don't wear Hugo Boss?

    Who knew.

  • Idk why nobody knew about it until recently, ime (and I've never used Zorin), I feel like even before the recent (likely paid advertising) campaign I still saw it almost once or twice per thread, usually something like "I'd go mint, unless you need cutting edge then Fedora, or if you really need it to look like windows then there is Zorin," some saying "I haven't used it but I hear it's windows like" and stuff. I've seen stuff like that consistently for the last 4 or 5 years since I switched and I was the one asking distro advice and being told mint, fedora, zorin, or pop. It has never been the top answer but it was always there, lurking in the shadows.

  • It's been asked a million times, and it'll be answered every time, and the answers will mostly be "Mint, Fedora, FedoraKDE, and if you wanna game Bazzite."

The real advice that gets posted less, regardless of distro:

    • Back up your important files to an external drive, often. It's entirely possible you'll fuck up an install beyond repair (or beyond what you know how to do at the time) and you end up reinstalling. If you can just put your important files back and be up and running, nothing of value is lost.
    • Don't be scared of the terminal, it's incredibly useful. Look up a few YT vids like "bash basics" or "linux terminal for beginners" or something and follow along like it's a class, you'll soon be comfortable enough to use it when you need it, and you will, and you may come to love it. It's not as bad as windows cmd! Be careful when using sudo or su, that's when you could really screw up the system (but mostly it'll be fine just be careful.

    And most importantly, have fun!

  • Good, at least you're honest about it. While I may disagree and think even a protest vote is better than a protest-nonvote, and that if everyone organized behind a third party then it'd go a long way to (if the election then gets stolen blatantly by the two) having a more organized structure for resistance in place, at least you're not one of the people I'm talking about who just buries their head in sand in support of the "lesser" instead burying your head in the sand in support of nihilism, which is better.

  • That's the exact defeatist attitude I'm talking about, rather than even try to do anything at the federal level that might spark any change, just accept it, it won't change until the volcano under Yellowstone kills us all and we might as well perpetuate it for drama.

Doing local shit is good too, but if that's how you feel about the national level you may as well just not vote, since it's inevitable anyway.

But at least quit lying to yourselves and the rest of us, next time someone supports a third party don't say "I agree we need change, but it's not the time to talk about this.." say "it's useless, there is no change, give up hope, stop trying, there's never a time to talk about this."
