Migrating here (or maybe keeping both) from @ArcaneSlime@lemmy.ml

Will put an eternal curse on your enemies for a Cinemageddon invite.

  • Honestly (can't speak for OP, but) I've been moving away from matrix recently.

    • Element is buggy as hell on my phone and a shitty electron app on my laptop. The other apps mostly lack feature parity.
    • It's difficult for normals to use and thus difficult for me to convert and retain my contacts (and trying has likely hurt my chances at getting them to adopt another now that they've all fallen back to SMS).
    • Parts of it like reactions aren't encrypted and it leaks metadata hardcore
    • I found out that the Matrix [.] org foundation was started by a former Amdocs employee (in fact it started as an Amdocs project before they stopped funding it and the matrix foundation was created) which raises HUGE red flags for me. Amdocs is affiliated with mossad. Even if Matrix isn't their proximity to Amdocs who definitely is is too close for comfort.
    • Lastly I understand that things in the privacy space are often exploited by bad actors and don't directly blame Matrix for this, but the CP problem on matrix makes the public rooms basically unusable and thus removes them from the equation. First of all because of this they removed the ability to find rooms through search, which "good" but it also kneecaps innocent use of the rooms, and secondly I just don't want to see that shit so even if I know the room addr I don't want to join it anymore unless I need specific tech support from an official room listed on some project's website, and then I'm in and out. Plus now I have friends asking what kind of CP app did I make them install and asking if they'll get sent to prison for seeing that shit in the raspberry pi room, and you and I both know they won't but also I don't want to put them in that position in the first place.

I've fallen back to xmpp for now, but I've been trying out Delta Chat as of the last few days and I'm liking it, I think I could get the normals on it with the easy onboarding, and the "no public groups" thing might be a feature not a bug.

I really really wanted to like matrix but it boils down to A) even if I do a chat app is useless without my people on it and B) with the Amdocs connection I'm too paranoid to trust it and C) even if I can just avoid the public rooms and thus CP, the fact that someone I know like my mom or cousin could conceivably stumble upon it there isn't a selling point at the very least.

  • Doing "Bob's" work, thanks!

  • Read to the tune of "five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes."

  • No u.

  • Nice, well that is good to know indeed. Hell maybe I can work with that if I can find one that isn't invasive to privacy and all. For now I'm sticking to OBD2 if possible haha.

  • Really? That's pretty damn fast, I'm impressed. Is that all brands or just some? If that's like a "just tesla" thing I'm right out, not buying a car that has spy cameras and can be bricked remotely, and that's before the politics even come into play lol, and that applies to new ice vehicles too.

30min is definitely more doable. Still inconvenient but not like hours inconvenient.

  • I didn't, the fact that you think people who can afford that stuff are the enemy is your own problem to solve, I even congratulated you on it.

But I'm also informing you (apparently) that not everyone is in the same situation and able to do the same thing. Quite a lot of people in fact. For those people "just do it bro" doesn't really work, you don't have to take that fact personally.

  • It's not ad hominem, your argument is "people don't sleep outside their house, the house they own, where they can install a charger for their car."

From this we can conclude you are privileged enough to afford a new(ish, at least) car, own a house, and you're a homebody who by your own admission doesn't often sleep outside of said house at a friend's, girlfriend's, relative's, or hotel, thus privileged and a homebody.

Would it be nice if every house had at least two or three car chargers so everyone could charge their cars at the same time and we could all go electric? Sure. Can everyone I know afford to buy a car, a house, and install the chargers? No. Am I going to install one at my house, one at my mom's for when I visit, and one at my girlfriend's apartment? Also no.

  • Rare for you, not necessarily rare for everyone.

What's more, I have a townhouse with an HOA I hate, not even sure I'm allowed to install a charger out front of my house. And before that when I was renting apartments what am I supposed to run an extension cord from my bedroom down to the parking lot?

Not everyone has the privileged homebody life you may, happy for you though.

  • Though, if I started at home, drove out of town to where I'm staying for the night, and the woman/friend/family member/hotel I'm sleeping at doesn't have a charger, then I start the day severely depleted and have to go find the nearest charger god knows where and then hang out there for what I assume is at least a couple hours.

With gas, yeah you have to get gas, but gas stations are everywhere and I don't have to wait for the gas to charge, it just dumps in the tank and I'm back moving in under 5min.

  • Tbf, if I'm in the woods, I also have a gun, guaranteed. But I also run into men, women, pairs, sometimes whole groups, of people in the woods regularly (as ya do, it's really not that unusual of an occurrence) and guess what happens most of the time: Nothing. They continue along their trail minding their business, I go off trail to smoke weed and look for cool salamanders. Hell on occasion I've smoked the weed with the strangers, and weed is still illegal in my locale. Not once has it been life threatening (that always seems to happen in parking lots so far, ime) or even a generic fight, not even so much as a squabble nor an argument (unless I brought my friend who says Dragon Ball sucks but he's WRONG!)

If I'm guaranteed a fight, and know I'll be in bear country so I can have an appropriate gun? I'd choose the bear for the simple fact that talking to that game warden is going to be easier than convincing 12 jurors a woman just came at me with a gun in the woods, sure.

But if I'm not guaranteed a fight? Experience has shown me that more likely than fight, the stranger will politely nod and keep moving, or smoke a J with me, maybe even one they brought. I'll choose the people.

  • If Paladin is your enemy, you've typically earned it through some misdeed. He's a gun for hire but seems to only take honorable cases.

  • I'm not biking 15mi (24.1km) to work by 7am, and then 15mi (24.1km) back home, for a total of 30mi (48.2km)/day, 5x a week. And that's not even that far of a commute tbh.

  • Use .resources (or anything similarly innocuous) instead. Totally meaningless but to anyone who doesn't know how to compute, they won't see it and it'll look innocuous if they do.

    Also LUKS helps.

  • Tbf I want to watch this more than any "real" movie.

Johhny Depp bites sandwich, suddenly he starts a transformation, much like your typical Dr. Jekyll situation with the screams and the contorting the body, then when the smoke clears the only difference is he has Don King's hair and voice/affectations.

  • And suddenly the guy waiting for it isn't as crazy as the other guy waiting for it.

  • Lmao that is pretty fucking funny honestly. Fair enough I suppose I overestimated their ability, I thought they used them all the time for like hat permit or dog license verification.

  • This is true, but also there's no way this wouldn't have been reported rather quick, like not just online but within 5min someone would have been all:

"Oi 999? The bridge on Crumpet Lane 'as fallen down, I can't get to me Chippy!"

    Or

"Oi wot was that loud bang outside me flat?! Made me spill me vindaloo! Holy Smeg the bridge collapsed!"

Or like isn't the UK the most surveiled country with their camera system? Is this bridge not on camera already? For that the AI telling location would probably be handy too I'd just be surprised they don't have it on security cams.

  • I'm literally reading and writing lmao, that beats the illiteracy argument. Would be a lot more effective and worth arguing against if we were speaking instead of communicating via the written word, but as that is not the case it isn't worth my time to refute the ad hominem attack, until I want to call you a fucking idiot for trying it that is, you fucking idiot.

You're just mad I noticed, stay mad дебип.
