  • Lemmy as a whole is more seems to attract neo-Luddites but I'm still surprised to see someone so against transhumanism in c/technology.

  • do -something- that interests you that’ll get you out and interacting with like-minded people

But then you meet either normies or other male nerds, depending on whether you pretend to like normal stuff or actually do the stuff you really like.

I wish old OkCupid was still a thing. There were still way more men than women there but at least it was possible to find the interesting women.

  • We discussed boundaries with the kids (no going through the gate or out the driveway, stay within the fence, stay out of the pond) and then let them play on their own. They were in and out of the house all week and, while with this many people around they were rarely alone, we also weren't ensuring they were accompanied.

I don't mean to come across as judgemental but I'm surprised that people let four-year-olds roam around outside without direct supervision. I wouldn't have been allowed to do that until I was about eight. (I do think that my parents were overprotective in many ways, but that wasn't one of the ways I thought they were overprotective.)

Also, I wonder when I learned to swim. It must have happened before my coherent episodic memories begin at six years old. Are four-year-olds physically capable of swimming?

  • If I'm watching a move with someone and I think she got distracted, I rewind. We can't have her missing anything.

  • New evidence

Isn't this old evidence that no one seems to have cared about much until now?

  • you only need a copy of Death Stranding and a phone

Do you actually need the phone or can you use a screenshot?

Also, if they're accessing Baldur's Gate 3 fan fiction, shouldn't they have used the photo mode from Baldur's Gate 3? Surely no one is more entitled to read Minthara erotica than Minthara herself.

  • Are there currently any government contracts put at risk by this? I didn't think that the feds were major spenders on AI. And is Trump aware that Musk is currently the one man trying to provide the sort of AI that Trump wants?

  • It's not unreasonable to simply dismiss what Trump says entirely, but it's a different matter to assign it a meaning other than the meaning that can be inferred from context. You're just putting words in his mouth at that point.

  • Oh wow, if it really is Vance that might explain why the WSJ is so confident.

(And Vance doesn't just have the most to gain. He's also someone who used to be a never-Trumper.)

  • I wonder who's leaking this. Probably someone near the top. There seems to be a schism in the administration between the absolute Trump supporters and the people who actually care about what they say they care about. Is it someone in the latter group?

  • North star? More like noob star.

  • Poignant. I'm a naturalized citizen myself and I'm worried in a way I never was before. I don't want to end up in South Sudan. So far, I have been expressing myself as if there were no danger, at least because I think that if they ever come for me, they can find plenty of what they object to in what I've written years ago. My father tells me that I'm a fool and I mourn that we live in an America where he's probably right. It turns out that they really do hate our freedom. Just not the "they" I expected.

  • No I think they want to keep the under-age girls too.

  • I think a living human who smelled like a rotting corpse would be forced to go away from other people too.

  • Well no, because I don't think people need to use tape to hold lingerie on.

  • I had some friends with a dog that was my dog's friend. One time I was visiting those friends after not seeing them for a long time. Their dog ran out of the house as soon as he saw me, but then when he realized that I didn't have my dog with me, he just turned around and went back inside without even letting me pet him.

  • $500 isn't exactly much, given how long art takes to produce, how relatively infrequently that art will be bought, and how many extra expenses a "self-employed" artist has. I expect that most people selling art for $500 are hobbyists with some other means of financial support, because they're not going to earn enough to live on by selling art. Portraying them as corporate sellouts is just silly.

(The exception might be some digital artists working on commission. But they're probably drawing furry porn rather than something you might see in a gallery.)

  • I just meant that the libel suit was predictable. Trump does seem shaken. I suppose that's because this time the most fanatical of his followers are the outraged ones.

  • Trump's response was entirely predictable so I presume that they predicted it and planned for it.
