  • I don't wanna frame it as "I'm too smart," but I think I have better problem-solving skills than average. Especially with these disorders, you often see a lack of global problem-solving skills as a risk factor. For me, though, I just had a specific deficit in interpersonal relationships and emotional regulation.

So I couldn't figure out how to get how to regulate my emotions or not relate to people in weird, toxic ways on my own, but I was able to figure out what that meant and how to find people who could teach me. Three years of DBT basically completely changed me.

  • You might also find he doesn't actually care as much as you think he does when you get away. Cluster b personalities (oh hi) often have something called "relationship impermanence" where you'll just kind of stop existing and he'll lose interest after he hasn't seen you for like 3 months.

Not that he's consciously lying about that specific thing or anything; part of why we give that vibe so strongly is that we also truly believe that nothing will ever matter more than you while it's happening. Cluster b's who have done therapy have to specifically learn skills to stay invested in relationships long term but I'm going to go out in a limb and guess this person has done 0 therapy and has no intention.

This isn't to say you shouldn't take any of the precautions other people suggest because you absolutely should just in case. But don't look at it as this impossible inescapable thing when that's probably just part of the "spell" of control he's got you under psychologically.

  • Yeah the alternative is euthenasia. I guess that would be better for the ecosystem.

  • Oh yeah the months to weeks long buildup the eventual climax of that first fuck can be utterly intoxicating.

  • Nah that was a legit interpretation of that text as written hence the clarification.

  • you can't see what anyone else has tagged you.

Well obviously, I meant that I don't personally know how to tag others, but am curious if anyone has tagged me. It's the he classic allure of wanting to know what others think of you, or even that you're noticeable enough for them to border thinking about you at all.

  • Honestly I never bothered to figure out how but gave always been curious if anyone has me tagged but that thread of narcissism has been largely supplanted by the realization that I'm not enough of a main character to have made it onto the blocklist.

  • I'm not on the blocklist 😭

  • it still creates a literal set of targeting data that anyone else can pick up and harass

this scope of possible damage hadn't occurred to me until now...

    1. Everybody's violent, the question is where and how sensitive the button is.
    2. Sardines
    3. Standup black comedy
    4. What I do should be considered ICU level care
    5. We'd need less ICU level behavioral care if we put people in houses and gave them food
  • 10 years of experiential observations on why people are violent in institutional environments.

  • I also think it's the thing the Buddha said. It was very well stated and made a lot of sense. You should go read about it.

  • I mean it could be something else, but that thing they're describing where they have to work their jaw and do it again and again until some arbitrary sense in their body decides they finally did it right... It's just too familiar. Like they're describing EXACTLY the same sensation. That is EXACTLY how I would describe the feeling. And that's what fixed it for me.

  • It's called air hunger and is a mild form of shortness of breath and I get it constantly. (Edit to add: I know EXACTLY what you mean by the jaw thing and that arbitrary bodily sensation of "u did it wrong tho do it again :( but right this time..." and then it keeps going and going and going until you finally manage to breathe in right somehow.)

    • get a medical checkup just to make sure nothing is actually wrong with your lungs, but especially have your iron levels checked
    • CUT BACK ON YOUR CAFFEINE AND OTHER STIMULANT USAGE (nicotine is another common stimulant)
    • it can also be due to anxiety (which is why you wanna cut the stims) so reduce your lifestyle stressors where possible, seek psychiatric treatment otherwise

Not a doctor but I am an RN (but still not your RN).

  • Oh yeah. If we made it so the immigrants faced 0 direct consequences but hiring them illegally had ruinous fines AND jail time, wages for natural born citizens would increase dramatically. A huge amount of "illegal immigration" is just diet human trafficking. Even the legal ones are sketchy sometimes, I meet so many international nurses who get hired into my specialty with 0 preparation for how dangerous American psych patients can get + how bad the working and living conditions are gonna be for them and the patients, but they can't get out of their contracts.

  • agreed

  • Patient - their own vomit. They ate so fast they puked then just kept re-eating it. Had to be dragged away. Mentioned this in a VtM group that thought they were edgy. They were like "well you can't eat anything that's not blood or you'll puke it up" and I was like "but I can just keep re-eating the puke right?" You could hear a pin drop in that chat.

Also lots of weird day-old congealed milk in juice mixers. See that one a lot actually. They scream at you for clearing out their room but you have to do it to keep them from poisoning themselves or getting weird infections.

  • Yeah having to let the battery die on a patient's prescription glasses that they needed to like. Not fall down while walking. Was not a fun couple of shifts.

  • Turns out ghosts were just termites all along.

  • I mean, OP seems to actually care that much.
