  • Besides smaller complaints (every instance has their issues). .world has gotten too large. Many people have suggested that it close its doors for now so other instances can catch up.

  • It does give me hope, but I also worry it may be a double edged sword and opening pandora’s box. There are way too many ideologies here that aren’t democracy. Given how easy the public was brain washed by Trump, I fear this may be an avenue to expose those people to things that probably shouldn’t even be crossing their minds.

  • As you’ve seen from other comments the short answer is that it doesn’t exist. Honestly the most civilized place I’ve come across is on Tildes, which is not federated and an even smaller community. But it has the charm of earlier reddit days where people actually liked speaking with one another.

  • I believe Facebook’s name came from an actual thing. The company was created for college students. Many campuses, would give face books that had students and professors from the universities.

  • Ironically he went on to create a chicken wing delivery company. Even wanting to deliver by boat to yachts. I believe they launched 30 stores a few years ago and maybe have two left? Hard to say. It feels like he was trying to overcompensate for that event.

  • More common than you think unfortunately. The internet has given anyone the option to find their mental echo chamber.

    My parents are hispanic immigrants (both citizens) who voted for trump, are republicans and also hate immigrants. They believe all the Obama drinks children blood stuff, are antivaxers, and since my older sister is with them, she is now also an antivaxer so her children have zero shots of any kind. (Good luck to them in the future if they want to travel)

    One of them believes aliens speak to them. I’ve seen a group in my family go to cult like events where they all dress in the same white uniforms and talk about the universe.

  • Now imagine that every time you get turned on, it's just the "physical" aspects. You feel the hormones, the need to release some tension. But it's never tied to a particular person or body part. The sensation is akin to being hungry, but not "in the mood" to eat anything
