  • I remember buying Final Fantasy XIV on Steam some years ago, and something about doing that made it so I completely missed out on the free trial. So now I'm not sure if I want to try to disassociate my Steam account from my Squeenix account and make a new one for the latter and see if that gives me access to the free version; or wait until I'm either comfortable paying the subscription or if a private server gets off the ground.

Final Fantasy XI private servers are alive and well in the meantime, and that's a game I still need to experience as well. Also PSO Blue Burst.

  • To be fair about One Piece, there's so little unique content in each episode, sandwiched between a lengthy theme song and recap, and next episode preview, that 37 episodes is more like 15 episodes.

And I love all of it.

  • Instant Pot is a game changer. No need to soak overnight anymore. Just drop em in for the recommended pressure cooking settings, give it time to dissipate the pressure naturally (for easier cleanup), and you're good to go.

I like to match beans and grains that have the same or close to the same cooking time, and make a bunch at once. Bam, easy base for a wide variety of meals for up to a week. This was a life saver when I was doing 10 hour shift factory work. My getting ready for bed routine involved making a coffee/tea mix because I like my caffeine to be ready to drink as soon as I wake up. I would also load a 36 oz leak-proof lunch container with soy curls on the bottom, add some spices and water, pile some Instant Pot gains and beans on top of that, a layer of fozen veggies, and then top it all with whatever sauces or condiments I was craving. Then just heat it up in the microwave at work.

Each batch would last about a week, so including other meals, I would only have to do any cooking 1-3 times a week. Both more easy and convenient, and far less expensive than eating out all the time.

  • I like the ds4 - so much so that I want to get a new one and mod it for more modern features. But it's still distinctly larger. It can be kind of surprizing to re-experience just how small and light the ds2 is compared to newer controllers.

  • I would call it less of an issue (at least in my case), and more of something that became apparent only after going back and experiencing the smaller controller to compare others to.

I really wish there were a modernized controller in the exact form factor of the classic ds2. Like if it had tmr sticks and a better dpad, but was still a wired controller and had 4 shoulder buttons instead of two triggers. Don't get me wrong, triggers have their place, but there are some games that work better with all buttons, which probably partly explains the popularity of hair trigger mods.

  • I remember reading that light mode is better for extended reading, so that's what I lean toward. My personal experience is that reading white text on black background can be a little more straining, but it wouldn't surprize me if others feel differently.

  • As someone also with large hands, I still love well designed controllers that fit well for smaller hands - like the classic Dualshock 2 controller. I used one again pretty recently. Had to stop because the analogs were virtually useless, but the smallness of the controller stood out to me because after enough time playing a game I noticed I could more easily forget the controller itself and focus on the game (except those damn broken sticks).

When I went back to the DualSense, it felt clunky and unwieldy by comparison. I feel bad for gamers with small hands, because all the standard controllers must be monstrous for a lot of people. No wonder mobile gaming gained so much traction - game companies forgot that kids play games too.

  • I do appreciate that the grips are flared out at least a little on this controller. The 90° ones on the Steam Deck can be quite uncomfortable, especially given that it's a pretty heavy and cumbersome device.

My biggest skepticism is the dpad though. It looks nearly identical to the Steam Deck's, which is easily one of the worst dpads I've ever used. Hopefully the underlying mechanisms and feel of it has been improved.

  • I don't like the look of this controller... I'm still gonna get one. Everything else I love.

Especially that SteamOS is apparently going to become available on ARM devices.

  • I started watching Discovery and Strange New Worlds recently. Honestly while it seems they are at least not so blatantly sexist as they used to be, in other ways, it seems like the newer shows are less political than the old ones. It's almost like a hybrid between classic Star Trek, and the Star-Wars-in-Star-Trek-Clothing movies that JJ Abrams made.

    I like em though. ¯(ツ)_/¯

  • Use a long series of spaces as your password. At least that way they'll have to do a double take when they crack the hash.

  • Here's a more appropriate take.

  • I dunno, seems like a stretch to me. This particular drama probably says more about our touch-averse culture, or starvation for constant political drama.

  • Dude, "orthorexia" was a thing that was baselessly made up. It doesn't exist.

It's not hard to just leave bananas out of recipes, at least for me, it doesn't feel like a loss in the first place. Just more room for better things.

Spinach is fine, the oxalates bind the spinach's own nutrients. The only issue there is a higher risk of kidney stones, which is easily avoided by eating a balanced variety of mixed greens regularly instead of any single one.

  • May every cattle rancher either go out of business, or be smart enough to convert to a business model that doesn't involve horrific suffering and exploitation of animals. 🙏

  • How dare you accuse me of being a weirdo keto person, I am most definitely not one of them. 😑

The effect is caused by an enzyme in bananas that are part of it's natural immune response. It breaks down polyphenols.

  • I don't think you understand. By adding the banana, you are canceling out the benefits of all of those other things.

  • Bananas are way overrated. Not nearly as much potassium as potatoes. As far as fruits go, they are lower fiber, high sugar (aka the not good kind of carbs).

And you know how they turn brown quickly after being exposed to air? That process virtually eliminates the absorption of any sources of antioxidants that it might be mixed with. Like adding bananas to your smoothies? If you were hoping for health benefits, you just wasted your money.
