  • Well truly profitable applications for LLMs are pretty limited so far, but they will come. Lets say you can replace a tax advisor / accountant with a specialized LLM agent (one that doesn't hallucinate tax code lol). Imagine oyu have an open source project that uses a coding AI agent to frequently update and retrain the tax LLM with the new regulations and laws and unit tests all this. So it's ultimately easy to use, you just talk to the tax AI agent. Or alternatively, because they managed to make open weight LLMs illegal because they are piracy because they use books and posts without permission to train and can't afford to pay the license fees. Now everybody has to use a commercial AI tax service. At the same price at what it cost previously to hire a real human.

As AI models get better they replace human labor. This is a problem under capitalism, otherwise we could just all just be working less and chill. But it gets even worse if "we" (like the 99%) can't make use of open source models. Then the plutocrats get to own this newly replaced labor as free labor and collect rent.

This is why I believe the IP argument of anti-AI is so dangerous. They can afford to pay license fees, we / open source can't. See patents, or see healthcare insurance purposefully making healthcare costs go up.

  • They = Örebro Party - Wikipedia

Even though I do not trust wikipedia or the mainstream news articles they source, the part about remigration is pretty clear cut.

  • The most important thing is to protect the people's right to use open source / weight AI models without licensing. Because the AI companies permanently monopolizing AI models and collecting rent forever on the commons, that would be a tragedy. It would forever shift the balance of power to use advanced technology.

  • Machine learning is more than just "transformative use" and is not copying. Currently that is only like 98% true, because memorization does occur in a few cases. Like 0.8-2% and that number is probably less now 2 years later than that study. Ultimately once they fix the memorization issue and "purge" these memories and can no longer reproduce licensed code (which is mostly textbook examples and boilerplate code or very popular code) this will be true transformative learning.

Then they do not require any more permission to read and learn from a book or from code than a human would. As long as you own a book or have the right to read something, you're allowed to do whatever you want with the knowledge you gained.

  • Well true it was an offhand sarcastic comment. And I know near nothing about the case besides the headlines. And I'm not saying this sort of corruption is widespread in the UK.

But the wiki page about the grooming gangs scandal notes "Several government reviews have reported failures by British institutions in preventing, identifying and prosecuting the widespread cases". And a later "Casey report concluded that the council was "not fit for purpose" and had a culture of bullying, sexism, covering up information and silencing whistleblowers".

Which is exactly what I'd guess why a grooming gang can operate without being investigated for so long. I didn't go by "every accusation is a confession" which is also often true.

  • So the real perpetrators of injustice were the misogynist cops we found along the way.

  • At least you can quickly filter out posts that are tagged. It takes much more energy to refute bullshit than spreading it (Brandolini’s law).

And users or networks that are spreading untagged fake content can get fined and social media will be strongly encouraged to ban such users. That depends on the enforcement of course.

  • synthetic text, images, video and audio designed to look truthful must be visibly marked as AI-generated and contain a digital watermark to show the artificial origins of the content.

Great! Basically the browsers could then just highlight or filter images that are AI generated based on the digital metadata. What would be important that all image generators put those metadata tags in, and all image manipulation software leaves then in by default. And that if you paste an image in some image tool, it copies the AI label.

All this costs basically nothing and hurts nobody. It's just adding and reading some metadata. And A LOT of the anger about not being able to tell what is real and what is not disappears. The responses are seriously silly

And of course they then need to enforce this. You'll still have images pretending to be real which are fake, but at least you can easily and quickly filter out the marked ones. Basically Brandolini's law, it takes the viewer much more energy to debunk bullshit he's seeing than spreading it. So this helps at least in that. And violations can be fined, and social media will not also be encouraged to ban users posting fake images without markers.

A fundamental human right people should have is the "RIGHT TO REALITY", to know what is real and what is fake and to not be deceived. The most extreme would be to put people into "The Matrix" or a simulation without them knowing. And what we're seeing today is kinda like this - politicians lie and mainstream media obscures.

  • I use powershell and windows terminal pretty much daily, not even for programming. Mostly ffmpeg and some convenience scripts.

But I do think it is much less accessible to most windows users.

  • They prevented a special election that would allow a democrat to run, and loosing a crucial seat.

  • inexpensive meals

Really rubbing the sauerkraut in the wound there

  • Scoff all you want, but she wrote almost all of her songs. Which probably IS unusual these times, and I was surprised too when I looked it up. But she's actually still working, training to dance, singing, writing lyrics and music, touring, traveling, entertaining.

  • Story old as time. Socialize the cost and privatize the gains.

  • shiiiiiiiieeeeet here we go again

  • It also marks you as extremely tech savvy, meaning you likely have large disposable incoming.

  • It's hard to say, but they do call for ethnic cleansing or "remigration" of citizens. That means concentration camps. What the US is doing now but worse. They also have socialist policies. So by combining nationalist and socialist (populist) policies, they are kinda reinventing Nazism. They are a serious threat.

It really is fucking sad because they were allies in the war against privacy, but you have to draw the line at ethnic cleansing.

  • Huh, maybe we need a fedishop network that is non profit and works for the interests of customers. Well and sellers, but not for profit for itself.

  • I want to know if there are things I am simply missing out on and there’s a better way to browse Lemmy.

.world blocks the more extreme communist instances like lemmygrad.ml and hexbear.net, so you're missing any interaction and opinions of those people.

See this thread for what instances do not defederate. You can always block people, communities and instances yourself.

  • It's a question if history is real and if it matters or not.

The "anti western" communists claim that the USA publicly bragged about doing a regime change on Ukraine, like before they did it, and the CIA affiliate even published the money they supported the organizer of the euromaidan protests with on their own website. Besides trained him. They also claim there were Nazis and that there are newspapers reports about this. They even unironically want to rehabilitate Stalin and the state violence of the great purge that passed about 10% of the population through a gulag! Imagine doing this in the USA today with all the MAGAts and corrupt officials and landowners in order to reeducate them and prevent a counterrevolution!!! Clearly they are insane.

And these are all lies because that is what Putin says and Putin is evil. So the good liberals of .world rightfully point out that all this is nonsense and Ukraine has always been neutral and the revolution of dignity must not be impinged by dirty commies. We've always been at war with Eurasia. The liberal socialists agree that this is a time where we need to band together and return to normalcy, because obviously we can't have all this aggravation and it's better to be inside the tent pissing out, no matter much fun it is to be on the outside pissing in.

This is all besides the question of ideology, collectivism and all that unamerican crap lol.

My personal opinion: You cannot have rational discourse with insane people in an insane society. It also means lemmy has failed as a global medium for meaningful political discourse. While the communist instances (the original developers btw) are pretty extreme and hostile, .world managed to monopolize much of lemmy and enforce (neo)liberal majority opinion on lemmy.

Obviously this is all satire. Nobody is planning a global war on democratic socialists or something.
