  • I think you can't really go wrong with trying ubuntu or linux mint. There are plenty of guides, most important thing is to back up your data in case you mess something up, you don't want to lose any files over a silly mistake.

  • Of course she doesn't care now, she's only a few years away from retiring or dying on the job anyways

  • I think they just plugged their ears and decided as a group that infact no one cared about this, you can be as delusional as you want if you only look at bad polling.

  • You gotta be a real sicko to have the substack app installed and on top of that have their push notifications enabled

  • It's amazing that "lifetime" positions are not considered controversial in and of themselves by most people.

  • I think it could happen, but it would have to be a foss app and a paid service or funded by ads, because you need paid people to moderate services like that, moderation on lemmy is about civility and people being mean to eachother, but moderation on a dating app might involve dealing with sexual assault and other illegal things in a much more prominent way. Or it would have to be funded by a government or charity which is not very likely in the present.

  • We at least don't serve that to children generally.

  • I don't think most people who voted for Trump care about the age of consent, biblically it's not like there's anything there designating something like that. They might care if he lowered the age of child marriage to 13, but even then that might not tank him.

  • That did he write his thesis on, The Giver?

  • I don't think a lot of legal food can be considered poison, but both HFCS and sugar soda are really close. Also any other drink with heaps of sugar dumped into it. If you had to pour 40-50g of sugar into your glass you would likely not do it, but when someone else does it for you, you don't have to think about it.

  • I would strongly disagree, half the reason AI is being so pushed right now is big business wants to extract growth regardless of how many people are employed and how many people are alive. There is no logical reason to be an anti-natalist, when the problem is quite clearly capitalism, not the amount of people, that's just rebranded Malthusianism.

  • Imo I think the biggest thing is it would be completing the revolution in the sense that the KMT fled to Taiwan and is a holdout, that would be a huge win for national pride and legitimacy for the government. The second biggest thing would be nothaving another country with an army so close to them that is "hostile" to their interests. And then after that there would be a lot of other benefits like absorbing their industry, economic zones, military bases, etc. They would much rather have the modern KMT party win an election and vote to become a part of China, than invade, which while very unlikely is not impossible by any means in the span of decades.

  • Every news source has bias, Al Jazeera has over 3000 staff, over 400 journalists and access that comes along with being that massive of a news agency. Obviously they are biased towards reporting that favors the government of Qatar who funds them. Particularly if a lot of stuff is happening in the middle east and Al Jazeera has more journalists in those countries with better connections to those countries they are gonna be first to cover a lot of things in the region. They are also much less likely to use passive voice and other qualification when talking about things like Palestine in their reporting. A lot of people don't want to read "50 Palestinians are shot" instead of "IDF battalion kills 50 Palestinians".
