Always wear a condom if you don't know somebody's STD status. If you're hooking up with somebody for the first time, you have no clue what they could be exposing you to. People lie about that shit all the time.

Don't mean to get too "political" or anything, but it does seem a bit relevant to consider this venn diagram is just a circle:

•people who would expect you to continue working from a bomb shelter when you could work from home

•people who actually started/profit from this war, and would love to normalize a world where continuing to go about business as usual during neverending warfare becomes as common as a morning commute.

I never experienced Usenet, but seems like I have been hearing it mentioned more and more lately as the fediverse continues to grow. Never really thought about it being like an email chain of comments.

The early internet required so much more patience and attention just to use it for any reason, let alone as a way to communicate back and forth with other people in real(ish) time. We take it for granted.

I've been reading about him over the last few months. Really interesting guy. If things had turned out differently, he almost certainly would have ended up a very vocal present day Fediverse user. Who knows, maybe the entire internet might have ended up a little different than it is today. He certainly seemed to be aware of a lot of things that were quietly happening in America that most people wouldn't realize for a few decades.

Speaking of Saudi Arabia, now seems like just as good a time as any to remind the reality based community of the crown prince's comments regarding 9/11 in 2025 when he was invited to the White House by Trump:

Seems to oddly mirror a lot of what's happening now. Especially if you think of Trump as dark Yeltsin. (I could be totally misremembering this, but I thought despite having an alcohol problem, Yeltsin had some legitimate redeeming qualities as well?) Regardless, it's hard not to notice the similarities when it comes to an absurd level of incompetence that almost makes it seem like failure was the goal the entire time.

I always assumed (and still think most likely) Vance or Rubio will be Trump's successor. Intellectually, they both definitely seem to fit the bill, but more and more I'm also starting to see some glaring similarities between Hegseth and Putin.

This seems very Putinesque, or at least the manufactured version of Putin made in America. Especially as Hegseth becomes the face leading an American holy war, hoping to rile the evangelical base despite Trump's plummeting approval rating.

Btw, this is almost definitely an AI rip off of the footprints in the sand poster, right? I know the actual picture of the penguin isn't, but if you gave AI a prompt to use that image and convey blind faith, loyalty, nationalism and Trump as a savior, what do you think it would generate?

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but knowing how propaganda is supposed to work, I can say it definitely caught some part of my own subconscious, and reminded me of iconic Christian pop culture I was surrounded by growing up. If you're unfamiliar with the poem,
