Yeesh. Not sure if I'm just naive for not really putting 2+2 together before reading your comment, or overly paranoid about how dystopian scifi the future might get from here?
But I never really thought about the laws that were used to elevate corporations over natural persons possibly foreshadowing a future that's controlled by something that's somehow even more ominous and artificial that these corporations are currently racing to create.
I have to say in 2026 I'm leaning more towards me just being naive because corporations are themselves a byproduct of a society obsessed with using technique as a means to achieve the most efficient end.
And at this point, I'm also pretty sure that while most rational humans hear alarm bells and see clear premonitions of dystopia when they hear a question like "What could possibly be more efficient than a world where all human imperfections have ceased to exist?," the sociopaths running these corporations believe they're ushering in paradise like priest Crystal.

Yes! Holy shit if we could see citizens United overturned it would be fucking huge. Like a reverse of thinking they would never see Roe v. Wade overturned in their lifetime.

This always seemed like such a distant dream, and not like it being overturned would just magically undo all the other evil shit Citizens United has helped accomplish, but it definitely would be a very big step towards restoring and improving democracy.

That's how it should be, or hold a new election, which is what the ACLU is pushing for.

But this guy has been targeted by the governor, who pushed for the bill to be created and said he would sign it into law. So it passed the Louisiana house and Senate, and most likely he is going to sign his own bill.

It shouldn't be legal in a democracy, but it is about to become legal in Jeff Landry's Louisiana.

I knew somebody who kept a can of pig brains on their ephys rig bc their mentor had always done the same to get their rig working and passed the tradition on to several mentees.

Idk how it worked for the other mentees but it didn't seem to bring much luck to that rig.

There was another great article in the Gambit that pointed out the insane hypocrisy of members of the Louisiana Senate, and their unabashed attempts to apparently emulate Fog Horn Leg Horn, but it looks like the article may have been removed :'(

B. But even if it is the end for Heritage, they've already achieved the goal they set out to achieve: Replace democracy with a government of corporations, for corporations, by corporations.

Heritage can go the way of the dinosaur, but all the offshoot organizations, institutions, and policies they helped establish will remain long after they're gone.

You know how there seem to be so many random tech companies (like flock), that just popped up out of nowhere overnight all over the country to help create the authoritarian surveillance state being built?

Then you read about the history of these companies that allegedly started as some kind of side project/hobby between a few friends who lacked any experience or expertise to do the things their company now does? Then yada, yada, yada, for some reason around 2020, a bunch of VC billionaires who refuses to even pay a dime in taxes, decided to just dump an insane amount of money into a startup created by 3 friends who didn't really know what they were doing?

And you start to wonder if it's really just a coincidence these Silicon Valley investors are so tight with the U.S. intelligence agencies that depend on their money to fund most of their bottomless black budget?

There's a similar history behind the Heritage foundation.

Take a look at the insane list of offspring organizations that were created by Heritage co-founder, and the godfather of the modern social conservative movement, Paul Weyrich.

Towards the end of the civil rights movement and just a few years shy of the Powell memo, a radio DJ from a working class family in Wisconsin decides to move to D.C. to work as an aid for Colorado Republican governor Gordon Alcott.

Then, with no college degree, family, or political connections in D.C., he creates the precursor organization to the Heritage Foundation with an investment from Joseph Coors, right around the time the Powell memo is released.

Coors, heir to the Coors brewery fortune, just happens to be good friends with corporate lawyer and U.S. intelligence darling William J. Casey, the man who created the concept of a tax shelter to help businesses skirt the regulations outlined in the New Deal. Coincidentally, Casey would eventually serve as Ronald Reagan's campaign manager and CIA director during his first term before dying very suddenly from a brain tumor during Iran Contra hearings.

Weyrich's precursor organization to Heritage, which focused mainly on social (rather than economic) conservativism fails. However, Weyrich is soon connected with the economic expertise of conservative Ed Feulner, and another investment from Coors helps launch Heritage. Coors' money is soon followed by large donations from Richard Mellon Scaife and other wealthy conservatives.

Heritage creates their first edition of Mandate for Leadership (the most famous edition being Project 2025), and both Carter and Reagan receive a copy before the upcoming election.. Carter ignores it. Reagan loves it.

The Iran hostage crisis unexpectedly allows Reagan to defeat Carter, and Reagan implements the majority of the Mandate for Leadership within his first year in office and appoints Casey as CIA director. Casey dies during the Iran Contra hearings, and subsequently takes all the blame for the entire scandal. The rest is history.

Except, the history nobody really talks about is the fact that Jimmy Carter and several members of his administration firmly believed that prior to the election, Reagan's CIA director, William Casey, traveled to Iran and helped orchestrate the delayed release of the hostages.

The delayed hostage release (the October surprise) is believed to be the main factor leading to Carter's defeat and Reagan's victory.

1-7 would be ideal banana. 8 is ok ish. 9 and 10 would have to be really pushing it. Anything beyond 10 is only useful for getting mashed up to cook banana bread or pancakes with.

Same. Bananas, avocados, and artichokes all get this weird but similar taste when they get ripe beyond the point I can enjoy them. Idk what it is exactly or even how to describe the taste, but some people seem to either not notice a difference or actively be seeking it out.

Most ready made guacamole always seems to have that same flavor. Honestly not sure if there's even a name for it, but it almost makes me gag.

I think that incarceration isn't necessarily problem. It's who gets incarcerated for what, and how many innocent people mistakenly end up railroaded. Alternatively, cases of affluenza and individuals who help keep the broken system going, are often considered above the law.

Violent offenders should be locked up. All of them, regardless of wealth or connections. But they still deserve to participate in a fair and just legal system.

Nonviolent offenders should be fined, and the amount they're fined should be equivalent to the crime they've committed while taking their own wealth and ability to pay into consideration. If people commit a very serious nonviolent crime, but either can't or won't pay off the debt they're fined, they should have the option of volunteering in their community to pay off their debt. If they fail to pay fines or repay their community via volunteer time, then potentially they should have their wages garnished.

Most importantly though, nobody should be getting insanely wealthy via investments in private prisons. There should be no incentive to simply pack as many people as possible into a prison while pretending that you've done something positive for society that also just happens to greatly increase your profits.

Louisiana's king and ambassador to Greenland (is that still a thing?) Jeff Landry attempting to destroy democracy (once again).

They have really been doing the most to keep this man from taking office and making some desperately needed changes.

I actually made a post several months ago showing the ridiculously small font used on the ballot for this election. Really didn't seem like a coincidence then, and definitely doesn't seem like one now.

I have to say it's almost impressive. Imagine if people like Landry put a fraction of this much effort into actually improving the lives of the Americans they're supposed to be representing instead of coming up with new schemes to help subvert democracy and line their own pockets.

You're asking America to let you take away their rights and privileges, and your argument, as the person that would be holding the power is that you're willing to take the risk to your rights and privileges?

The king's sales pitch for why his peasants should be ok with handing over even more rights and civil liberty, is that he (the king) is willing to take the non-existent risk to his own rights, in exchange for even more authority and power being given to him.

And somehow, the king having even more domestic spying power is for the benefit of the king's military... Who are currently fighting a foreign war that was started by the king despite having no support from the peasants.

Setting the unjust foreign wars aside for just a min, it seems kind of important to ask why a king (and his military) would somehow benefit from increased domestic authority?

It's not like he views the rights and liberties of the American people living under his ~~regime~~ administration as some kind of threat. Or like he considers American citizens to be hostile enemies..., right? 😅
