    I would argue to not give any info to ANYONE. Not family, not friends, not your boss, nothing. Abusive families can be manipulative and experts at putting pressure on others to get what they want.

    When you’re leaving, but still within your home state, send certified letters to them informing them that you’re safe, are not in any danger, and are cutting off contact. Have the letter clearly state that you have no desire to be in communications with them, and that them finding you and coming to you will be treated as a hostile act. Be sure to cite all the reasons for going no contact in the letter (especially the animal abuse.)

    I disagree. Certified letters wont do much of anything.. I would suggest stopping on the way out of town by a local police office and tell them that you are escaping from an abusive and dangerous home life, that theres a strong chance they might try to report you missing, and you are here to put on the record that you are leaving for your safety, you are not missing, because they are likely to try to use the police to track you down. . . Assuming you can trust the local PD, and they have no connections to your family that would be useful for tracking you down.

    Obtain a firearm and learn how to use it. Make sure it’s something you can carry on your person.

    This has to be a major priority once he gets whereever he's settling. Take classes, and go to the range regularly to get used to loading, handling, firing it, and the recoil and noise.

    I would add one last thing.

    Do nothing on your phone. You don't know if tracking software or logging software is installed on it. Throw away your phone, and buy a new cheap PoS phone with a whole new number, from a completely different carrier than what you currently have. and do that while you are still in town, so they can't use it to find out where you are, or get a general direction on where you're heading.

    The same could be said for your computer, too, but thats more easily reformated. you could even get an immutable OS setup so that all it takes is a reboot to restore the system and undo any tampering.

  • yep. Harming animals for fun puts him on the fast list to doing the same to people.

    He needs to get away fast, and He needs to get to get to the other side of the country, get a second floor apartment, and a gun and take lessons on how to responsibly use it, and regularly go to the firing range so he knows how to safely load, handle and shoot it. and if he gets comfortable with it, maybe even a concealed carry permit if its available where ever he ends up.

    Because if his brother does come for him, the chances are extreme that only one person is leaving the situation alive, and I think we would all prefer Op to be the survivor.

    And, one last thing, is to stay off social media.

    the EWG is bullshit scaremongering site that says anything functionally above 0 is CONTAMINATION. And what do you know, theres easy links to buy filters that solve every imaginary problem they try to scare you with right on the very same pages.

    A simple search about EWG shows that everyone has some very legitimate and serious criticism about their utter bullshit.

  • a proper water test from a reputable lab that tests for dangerous contaminants like lead, not just a TDS test.

    Total Dissolved Solids tests are what the filter companies to scare you into buying their filter systems. They'll take your tap water, put their TDS meter in it, go "Oh my god, look at how high it is! you need filtration immediately!" and try to sell you an overpriced system immediately.

    You know whats dissolved in water? All the minerals and other crap that makes water good for you. Thats why a TDS meter spikes even in bottled water. But its an excellent scare trap for the uninformed by the predatory.

    Crime has been on a significant downturn ever since lead was removed from gasoline, and thus stopped being vaporized in the air.

    Are there places where crime spikes upward? yes, but almost 100% of the time thats caused by the failure of local, state, or federal governments creating disadvantaged, poor, underserviced people. . and you treat people poorly and keep them desperate long enough, then crime is going to occur.

    They'll happily spend millions on the crime part, but they wont even acknowledge the underlying issue that could be addressed for far less than what oppression costs.

    I understand some machines might need internet to send reports and make document filings and shit. But it should not be the critical control equipment that makes the system function. And there should be a massive physical gap between the internet machines and the critical machines.
