    No one here will disagree with the global warming part. The us is both the largest historical emitters of carbon and one of those most resisting change. Yes in this case global warming is very much us centric. In this case the world really can’t do it without us

    Yes, production is up

    But usage is down and that extra production goes toward exports (not that export is any different for the climate)

    And while this might be more tenuous, it follows record drilling leases by the first Trump administration. It may have ramped up on Biden’s watch, but this is a Trump thing.

  • Here’s a graph showing overall fossil fuel USAGE in the US peaked about 2008. The Biden years do show an upward trend but it looks more like COVID recovery and flattens out well under 2008

    But this probably explains what you see. Check out this graph of petroleum exports sky rocketing in recent years, including during Biden years as new drilling technology like fracking and horizontal drilling quickly turned us into the biggest oil producing country. Oil companies have been getting rich

    And here’s one that explains the different. Look at drilling leases by president and you’ll see far less under Biden. Trump 1 had record leases and all that new drilling came through while Biden was president, but Biden tried to cut back. Remember, oil wells don’t magically produce on day 1

    • coding LLM tends to have obvious sources (for example if I tell it to use a vendor API to do something, I know there's API documentation as the source of truth and the script is just like the example I would previously have found on StackOverflow.com).

    Finally getting to my point …. The way to control Drump for those of us unable to pay massive bribes is to use flattery, play to his vanity and narcissism. We could sidetrack him into paying attention to that hotel and he might just forget about minor things like being president. He’ll, let’s hire some British royal guards to really treat him like royalty, keep his focus on himself

  • But why? If you try to be objective, how is this any different from an op Ed or other published article? Those are good starting points as well, but also shouldn’t be published as your work or trusted as is.

    The problem with LLMs is not when people use them as a tool, but when they use inappropriately, blindly trust them or treat them as a final result instead of thinking, reviewing, or adding value.

    Id go even farther than that. Biden started a lot of good things, not just the better economy, but way too much was longer term and no one has an attention span anymore. Too many voters can’t look at a chart and see “lines goes up” or a schedule and see “next decade is mighty fine”

  • It’s a strange thing to think about: traditionally the us military is so highly budgetted that we could afford to lose an excessive amount of high priced equipment and ordinance compared to anyone else. If we spend ten times a potential opponent, no problem

    But now in a world with low priced drone swarms and almost as low priced third world missiles, the multiplier is thousands, tens of thousands ….. I believe there were aircraft losses so the multiplier might be millions. Even the us military can’t afford a war with those multipliers. And that’s assuming we could build the ordinance fast enough

    Even stranger that I haven’t seen this discussed in news media
