  • Yeah, Lemmy was always so pessimistic about the future, but everything was looking up. Lots of reasons for hope that tomorrow would be better than yesterday, my kids would inherit a better world and make it even better.

    Then it all fell apart. The scary thing is not how ugly, immoral, hate filled, corrupt it is, but how quickly and easily it fell apart yet still has people supporting it

    “Both”? Maybe this is the entire confusion. In my package there is one rectangular piece for the roux. While it’s partly sectioned into 8 pieces that you could break off (think like a hersheys chocolate bar, if you have those), it’s one piece, and packaged in one rectangular plastic tray.

    • If by “one square” you meant breaking off one of those little pieces, that would not be much flavor nor much roux
    • saying “both” implies yours is somehow packaged in two: we don’t have that. There is no distinguishable “half pack”
    • given the larger ingredient quantities and serving size, it seems like your package is double

  • Tastes great, mightily convenient! I always add the whole box and it never occurred to me not to - I don’t see how the sauce would thicken up if you didn’t, plus there’d be no flavor.

    This is actually how I discovered my family was hit by covid back during the pandemic. This was the first food where we noticed that two of us could neither smell nor taste it, a hallmark of early covid

  • Never got my money back - the lawyer fees would have been high and I went in assuming it was a gamble - most likely I’d lose it all with a small chance of a huge win

    But that place was a real toxic workplace that I’m glad I left. The other fun thing was the reason I got laid off: not a team player. They asked me to be the first one in so I could do their management so I said ok. Then they asked me to stay last and I said “sure, which do you want. This was a typical startup where everyone works insane hours so there’s really no way anyone could be both first in and last out, but they thought that was not being a team player

  • Stock options. I was working in a startup and got hit with the downsizing axe. Luckily, I thought, I had had been there just long enough to vest in the options. So I bought them on my way out the door, spent like $100 on 200,000 options: they were worthless at the time but if the company ever did go public that small investment would quickly turn into a fortune. Lucky.

    Two weeks later I got the legal notice that they reissued options so all non-founder options were cancelled.

  • No, I really don’t have plans this year, but

    • This past year I replaced an air conditioner with heat pump in my addition. It is a great heat source for shoulder seasons, but gas is cheaper when it’s cold
    • The year before I replaced gas range with induction
    • The year before that I bought an EV and installed a level 2 charger
    • A few years earlier, I chose an electricity provider with 70% renewable generation
