Wow. I consider myself a pretty frequent user of Lemmy, and I have no idea what they're talking about here. Any of it. And if it doesn't concern me, then it sure as fuck doesn't concern any "normies". Normies aren't doing deep dives into Lemmy politics. They don't know, and they don't care---just like I don't. It's a classic case of taking a personal vendetta and pretending it's some grand crusade for decency and normality.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like they were killed by authoritarianism, not communism. I don't think communism requires concentration camps, famines, or cultural purges.

If the AI companies were simply picking up books that were already going to a landfill, I don't think that would bother anybody. That isn't what we're talking about here, though. These books are coming from booksellers, so it's fair to guess that most of them are at least a notch or two above what you'd find in a Goodwill bargain bin.
I'm skeptical he would win that suit. Google can just say that they had to enforce their rules regardless of whether the police think he's innocent or not, and since they own the servers that his files were on, they reserve the right to delete those files if they decide to.
Imagine if Lemmy was run by a billion-dollar corporation and injected full of AI, bots, and ads.
