  • At the risk of getting myself a rain of downvotes here:

An ambulance is an expensive and somewhat rare mini-ER on wheels that's designed to help a small team of expensive and somewhat rare specialists stabilize a dangerous condition on a patient until it reaches a hospital. Since it is important to keep those somewhat rare vehicles and teams in reserve for when they are suddenly urgently needed, you really shouldn't use one as a taxi to the hospital if whatever your condition is doesn't call for that.

(Asking enormous sums of money of the patient for the privilege is IMHO still wrong. The decision to use an ambulance or not should not be based on whether you can can easily part with a couple thousand dollars.)

  • I think the real difference between moths and butterflies, from my own observations, is that moths will stow their wings backwards like most other insects when not in use, while butterflies will just fold them upwards, not moving them tailwards at all.

  • So long as you're using the spinning rust hdds, the noise of the CPU cooler won't make much difference. Mind you, this PC will be a bit too loud for the living room like this.

  • If you're already going for spinning rust hard disks, why limit yourself to the 3 TB ones? IMHO, these days, spinning rust only makes sense at 8 TB+ per disk.

  • You still don't need to turn the AC up to the point where some people start freezing.

IMHO, it's not the slightest bit unreasonable to just expect everybody in the office to be able to deal with any temperature between 20C (68F) and 24C (75F) without complaining.

  • Carrying a long-sleeved shirt with you in case it gets a bit chilly is not unreasonable.

  • If it's 21 C / 70 F outside, just leave all A/C and heating off. You don't need them.

  • That's idiotic.

  • then they blast personal space heaters in their offices while the AC is on.

Okay, that's more than just mildly irritating. That's massively irritating.

  • Is it legal to DIY that if you're not a certified electrician?

  • They forgot Rockbox. I still have an old Sansa Clip with Rockbox on it that plays Doom with no problems.

  • The Trump administration has been known to just randomly, unilaterally withdraw visas on a whim. You'd have to be crazy to accept that bargain when they just might kick you out anyway and keep your money.

  • Nobody would have believed him anyway.

  • I don't think he's right about America's founding ideas. Free enterprise, maybe. But capitalism is a different beast, and only came to America much later. The young country's first taste of real capitalism was the East India Company and their tea trading business. And look how they reacted to that.

I don't think capitalism was what the USA's founding fathers had in mind at all. I do think the linguistic conflation of "free market" with "capitalism" is an intentional large scale psy-op designed to make people forget that. And it's working.

  • Any further "helpful" information in that error message would be a security issue.

  • And what the goddamn hell is “true wood” supposed to distinguish?

I suppose if it contains lignin, it's really wood, otherwise it just kinda looks like wood at best. If it's real wood, most animals, with a few exceptions here and there, cannot directly digest it.

  • Wait, basil?

Rosemary, I get (and also thyme, btw), but basil? At best, the dried out stalks of a basil can look a bit woody, but that's true for a lot of plants.
