Victim of Communism

  • Even better...

Texas families have two more weeks to apply for the state's school voucher program. That's because of two new lawsuits that claim the state is excluding Islamic private schools from participating.

    ...

The state comptroller's office runs the voucher program. In January, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the agency has the right to exclude schools from participating.

  • over 90% of what is wagered gets returned to bettors in the form of winnings

As someone who has gambled once or twice, this seems like a wild overestimate.

  • Okay, yeah sure. That looks bad. But how much did those Americans win back?

  • I mean, the “we can’t afford domestic spending” is also their way of transitioning domestic spending to privatize industries to enrich themselves and their buddies.

Curious to see how we never have a dime to spend on public school, but we've always got another million for vouchers to church-owned ones.

  • We can't afford domestic spending, but we also can't to afford NOT to spend $1.5T on the Pentagon (plus hundreds of billions more on NSA / DHS / FBI / etc).

It's an Oops, All Cops federal budget going forward, folks.

  • You can just hit the bricks. You're an adult. Nobody is stopping you.

  • its frankly a miracle they were even able to trademark “Demon Hunters” because it’s so generic

Far easier than you'd think. The patent office is understaffed and the rules for this kind of thing are fairly loose.

  • If you point at someone on a site like Lemmy and say "Christian", you can gin up a lot of reflexive hate with a headline. "Christian Rock Band" is an even more target rich source of ire.

  • Sometimes you can just issue a lawsuit and collect on the nuisance value alone. Sort of a get-rich-quick secret of the pharaohs. If you have a lawyer in pocket and your time is less valuable than their money, filing in a friendly court with a plausible case can be worth five or six figures easy. The defense attorneys will cost more than that anyway.

For the next-level shit, go check out how the Westboro Baptist Church makes money. They effectively thrive on lawsuits by being as annoying as possible and then filing claims against anyone who takes a swing at them.

  • Only in Heaven. And even then, everything I've read about the guy upstairs suggests he's fine with this shit.

  • Gray market imports into the US from China have already been big business, especially among counterfeiters and drop-shippers. Idk about getting a full-sized SUV over the border. But designer bags, electronics, and the like have been coming over for at least a decade.

Idk how much retail buyers save, though. Much like with the drug trade and human trafficking, there's inevitably an enormous mark-up for this kind of smuggling. And because it is functionally unregulated, you get a ton of refurbished, low-grade, and outright fraudulent sales. Smuggling tends to accrue money to the smugglers and the various officials you need to bribe to move the merchandise. You rarely see retail level discounts, unless the market is so glutted with knock-offs.

  • they keep the good stuff for themselves.

Do they? If anything, I believe China's been exporting the high-end luxury items because they have absurd margins in western markets. Meanwhile, the good-enough goods stay at home, because it isn't worth the time or effort to sail them across the ocean and market them.

I guess Temu and its peers have changed that, to a degree. But so much Temu crap just gets bought up by local American drop-shippers, marked up to American prices, and rebranded as western equivalent merch that it feels like much the same.

  • They won’t sell it to you

China is a major consumer of RAM. If they can supply it domestically, that has the potential to reduce the volume of global imports and subsequent price pressure.

If their competitors can't keep up, you will eventually see Chinese RAM get out onto the secondary market in the same way Chinese EVs and Chinese cell phones and Chinese solar panels and Chinese steel have depressed global prices for these commodities.

  • Whenever the tariffs come down.

  • Sort of the joke in the modern US attitude towards Taiwan. They see a break-away province and have no actual respect for their sovereignty. Independent small nations are just colonies-up-for-grabs in the eyes of the US State Department.

  • You: "Uninstall DS3"

Me: "I can't hear you, I'm gooning to Sister Friede feet pics"

  • Hey hey, this wasn't a buy it was a repair
