Victim of Communism

  • More recently, the AIPAC strategy on Israel is to splinter where it sends money and attack candidates on grounds fully independent of Israel.

Maine was a great example of this in action (for better or worse). Platner was taken down (belatedly) based on his history of infidelity and misogynist violence. Francesca Hong lost to David Crowley largely because of the endless harping on her excessively-Woke views on Thanksgiving. El-Sayed is facing a deluge of TERFism going into the general, paid for by a constellation of Zionist-backed media. Mamdani getting an endless hate-parade from the NYPost on anything tangentially related to cops.

I suspect the AIPAC playbook is going to look very similar to the New Labour playbook in the UK. You'll get smeared from every angle except support for Palestine.

  • Republicans had to explicitly grant an exemption to the industry back in 2005, in response to a wave of lawsuits successfully pinning manufacturers with responsibility for proliferation and criminal misuse.

Even despite this liability protection, Remington Arms' four insurance companies paid a $73 million settlement with Sandy Hook plaintiffs in 2021 regarding its alleged violations of state law (specifically Connecticut's Unfair Trade Practices Act). Although PLCAA protections had been raised by the manufacturer in Sandy Hook negotiations prior to the settlement, a similar but entirely separate case had been declined by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2019 (Remington Arms Co. v. Soto).

    So there's ample precedent.

  • Data availability

Landsat 8 data were accessed using the Google Earth Engine

  • If parts of your party are aligned with the opposition party, what kind of organization are we dealing with?

If the leadership of the party is in a negotiated surrender with the son in law of the opposition president, what is going on?

  • You have to wonder if NVIDIA should suffer any kind of liability for its hardware being used in these strikes.

  • Folks downvote this shit, even as Dems like Cuellar and Cuomo receive explicit support - even criminal pardons - from the Trump Administration.

  • If it's Kushner you're dealing with, Putin might as well be in the room.

  • Kip Thorne signed off on their artistic license plot device of having spacetime collapse into the “tesseract.”

Well, then, I guess it's all perfectly real and believable. Next time I see a clock rattle or a bookshelf shake, I'll know what's up.

  • If the US was a collection of little sovereign states mostly independent maybe it would make sense.

That was the original intended structure, under the Articles of Confederation. The Senate was a compromise to appease low-pop agrarian slave territories and keep them from breaking off into fully independent countries - the fate that befell the Caribbean and much of Latin America.

As a trade-off, it was a savvy play. But the US Civil War should have illustrated the need for its abolition.

  • If it's not in black and white, with two middle aged French people sharing a cigarette after some loveless sex while looking out a window and quoting poetry, I don't want anything to do with it.

Nolan's a highly talented auteur cinematographier.

He's doing Magical Realism with SciFi pastiche, he's always got a great cast, infinity zillion dollar budget with stunning special effects.

Absolutely nothing clever or interesting to say with his work. It all ends at the level of two DudeBros snorting a line of coke and pretending to be smart.

  • Golem XIV

Very obviously an inspiration for Doctor Manhattan.

  • Solaris was genuinely very difficult to follow. As an avante garde Sci Fi piece, incredible. You can draw a straight line from Solaris to a hundred Star Trek and Dr Who and Battle Star Galactica episodes. Absolutely littered with cool ideas.

As... entertainment? It was a bumpy road. The execution was rough, even by the standards of the era.

  • Okay, come on. The trips out to the three candidate worlds were cool. It was a very slow build up. And then the post Black Hole climax was silly.

But the middle of the movie was good.

  • The physics are accurate.

Space ghosts from the fourth dimension can give you physics advice by wiggling your books?

  • Well, there's your problem. Woody Harlson was the one that delivered on TD.

  • Where, for example, a grouchy misanthropic isolated farmer is the ONLY person who can pilot this spaceship and save humanity, so he does it but grumbles the whole time.

In fairness, the enthusiastic astronauts were all reckless, foolhardy, narcissists who nearly flub the whole mission.

  • Going through a black hole but it's just a fisheye lens having gravel flung at it, because you forgot to budget for this particular special effect

But don't worry, you can absolutely pass through the Event Horizon in a man made spacecraft just so long as you have the singular force that defines the shape of the universe: gravity Love.
