90% of people aren’t worth the time

  • Where is “1” on this car stereo?

  • For me I think growing up constantly told “you’re so smart, you’ll figure it all out” was more detrimental than helpful. It led me to believe I’d cruise through life pretty easily. I’m happy with where life’s taken me and the point I’m at now but I could’ve gotten here a lot faster if I would’ve applied myself more. Just because a kid is into computers doesn’t mean they’ll be some sort of genius.

  • I feel this way about 90% of smells. I really hate candles (even ones that smell fantastic) because it feels like the air is poisoned.

Having quit smoking/vaping a year ago I’m still shocked by how nasty people smell in public. We all know Los Angeles has some stench (piss and shit everywhere) but in places like theaters, Costco or other packed retail stores, etc. I’m just blown away by how bad it all smells.

  • We know you’re using AI to generate slop and that’s precisely what we’re blaming you for.

  • Isn’t all of Meta already a scam?

  • Why $2.5 instead of $2.50?

  • Okay, that kind of makes sense. I was looking into solar and automatic switching (no grid tie) and was surprised to see those batteries being used as (smaller) options.

  • I wish it would’ve gone into how the battery worked. I just can’t imagine that that part of it was too great.

  • I was scrolling quick so I didn’t notice it was slop until I saw the comment so strangely enough it was actually more useful than I would’ve otherwise initially guessed.

  • Why would we use his likeness to celebrate the 250th anniversary? Just the excuse itself feels like AI slop.

  • Who the fuck even talks like that?

  • Having lived in California now for ~13 years this always gives me a good chuckle. We’re either in the hole or flying high, it’s never a happy medium.

  • I just use multiple VPN tunnels with the first two hops still in the US (so it doesn’t look like I’m going offshore) with random delays along the way (to avoid timing analysis) to a Lemmy instance in a privacy-friendly country.

They could probably still figure out who I am if they tried hard enough though.

  • Then when they inevitably get hacked you’ll get a trillion scammers on you 24/7. Hopefully you used a unique email address you can shut down and they don’t ask for any other information.

  • Yeah that’s kind of the downside. I considered using a Raspberry Pi but it felt weird to use its Ethernet port alongside some micro USB → Ethernet adapter that probably wouldn’t hit 1 Gbps anyway.

  • “Is now on macOS” or “is now on the Mac?” The former is the OS while the latter is the hardware. Saying it’s “now on Mac” is kind of odd.

  • Honestly I just bought a small mini PC and installed Linux on it — that’s my router. I got sick of consumer trash anyway and decided to roll my own. The mini PC is overkill, you can get by very modest hardware.
