  • it took me a second to get it but that's actually a good joke why are people downvoting you

  • there sure are a lot of horny comics here lately

  • im kind of excited for the used prices of these after a few years, assuming asahi gets running on them. having a reasonably powerful arm laptop would be fun

  • Not quite documentaries, but Clabretro makes long videos where you sort of learn about old computer equipment along with him as he figures out how to use a new thing he got. He used to use LLMs to try to figure stuff out in his videos which was a little annoying but he doesn't seem to anymore.

plus he has a cute cat named chloe

  • Has his content gotten more accurate? I stopped watching him after he claimed that the cell signal meter on your phone doesn't measure the signal strength but actually the distance to the nearest tower

  • People valuing diamonds more than other gems has always seemed so weird to me. If someone is ever proposing to me they had better get something fun and colorful and reasonably priced instead of a boring clear diamond

  • I've tried others but I only really like eternity. I guess I could try to maintain it myself but I don't like android development

  • Yeah, I used Infinity for reddit but then they had to start charging for use because of the API pricing so I moved to Eternity which is a fork of Infinity for lemmy. Problem is, Eternity doesn't seem to be maintained anymore so when it stops working with some lemmy update I guess I'll just have to go back to entertaining myself with simon tatham's portable puzzle collection or something

  • To be fair, most CRT TVs are the equivalent of like a cheap not-classy record player. A nice big 1200p CRT computer monitor is a lot more classy

  • modern windows tries to trick you into not doing that. if you hold for a little bit it turns the screen off so you think it's turned off when it really hasn't, then if you hold a little longer it turns the screen back on and tells you to please stop holding the power button, then finally a little after that the computer actually turns off. why the hardware even makes that possible is beyond me

  • I use both matrix and discord regularly and matrix is nowhere near a viable alternative for discord, the way they work is just too different. The only real alternative I've been able to find is guilded but it's no better than discord since it's still completely centralized and closed source

  • Are broadcast licenses even "very valuable" anymore? I think I know maybe one person who regularly watches broadcast tv. Not that that means he should take them away, I just feel like it isn't nearly as big a threat he thinks it is

  • Android's modern gesture navigation is awful. I like gesture navigation on ubuntu touch, sailfish, webos, just about everywhere I've used it except android, but I cannot stand android's. Why does swiping from both sides do the same thing? Why does swiping from the bottom do multiple different things depending on how you swipe? Why does swiping along the bottom to switch apps rearrange them so going back and forth is unpredictable? The old two button semi-gesture navigation was so much better.

  • The only other one you can put on that machine is Linux.

Not true, I know first hand OpenBSD works fine (at least on my AMD FW13, but I'm sure it works on the others too) and I'm sure the other BSDs do too. I'm not recommending a new user use those, just pointing out the original statement is wrong.

  • I feel like mozilla could switch to making all their decisions by flipping a coin and do better than they're doing in recent years

  • Earlier this year I collected virtually every photo I've ever taken from every device I own and put them on my immich server and it was so worth it. I spend so much time looking at my old stuff now that it's all there. If anything I think having easy access to take and view photos just lets you connect to them more because you can so easily go back to any point in your life
