  • True, I don't listen to him for several days in a row like I do with Justice or Daft Punk. But I love him in bite-sized pieces, and tracks like Your New Morning Alarm make me smile every time.

I saw him at Bonnaroo a couple years ago and everyone in the crowd was having such a good time. At one point, he's running around on stage in his bathrobe (of course), and his robe got snagged on something. So he just took it off, and was running around in his underwear yelling, "SOMEONE GET ME A ROBE! SOMEONE GET ME A GOD DAMN ROBE!" Then he made a song out of it.

  • Rumor is, any time two Frenchmen are in a room with a keyboard, there is a small chance that the next electronic duo will form from the interaction.

Until then, it's probably Justice and Ratatat. Check out Marc Rebillet, too. The rare "one-man electronic duo."

  • Wow, that is a very creative idea, I love it! :D

  • It does look nice. The R1 wasn't available when I bought my R3, but if it was, I think I would have gone with an R1 instead. I don't really need the 4.4 mm balanced output jack that the R3 has, and although the aluminum of the R3 does feel nice, the R1 is quite a bit lighter.

  • I have a Hiby R3 and have enjoyed it. https://store.hiby.com/products/hiby-r3-ii-2025

It's smaller than a phone, but the screen is still large enough to scroll through your collection with. Also, it's not running Android, which I like. (For some reason I'm just irked by the fact that everything around me is running Android these days.) So there aren't any apps -- it's just a music player, which I also like.

  • For those haven't read the article, "system requirements" here means the minimum version of various system libraries, like openssl. It doesn't mean "system requirements" like in a video game -- you don't need to upgrade your PC to use the new systemd version.

  • Thank you. I think it's safe to post that online, even if you are Paranoid.

  • Well this isn't helpful, he can't check your nightstand if you don't post your address.

  • I'm just going to start handing notes to people in my immediate vicinity, like an analog meshtastic. Or a middle schooler.

  • That's the case for me. 404 was the first media outlet that was actively using the fediverse (Mastodon, specifically) to interact with their readers and share their content. At the same time, I realized that if I was going to start using non-VC-funded social media, I should probably pay for some non-VC-funded news sources, too.

Especially given 404's main subject matter, I bet there are a lot of discussions on the fediverse that are relevant to what 404 covers.

  • WELP, time to go find an even smaller discussion forum! This place really sold out...

  • Wow, thank you for this response. I hadn't thought of tracking music preferences as a tool for self discovery.

  • I've been thinking about setting up a scrobble server, but haven't been sure what I would do with it. What do you use the information for? Does it affect how you listen?

  • Realized last week that my fail2ban settings are too strict -- I get banned immediately if I visit my funkwhale (music server) domain without being logged in. In fact, I think much of my "downtime" might have actually just been me banning myself for 15 minutes now and then...

I was thinking about getting rid of Grafana, which is overkill for my server, and replacing it with Logdy this weekend, but didn't get around to it.

  • True, fair point.

  • I want to say a steak, but if I had an infinite supply of perfect steak available to me, I would probably die of a heart attack in about a year.

So instead I'll say crispy, corn-starch-battered stir fried marinated tofu. Tastes very good, and I usually fail to plan ahead for marinating it, plus the corn starch can sometimes make a mess, so having it magically made for me would be nice.

  • Thanks for the tip, I might try this next time. I basically saturated them with water when cleaning them just now, so I don't think soaking them would be much different. I also wonder if washing soda would improve them a little.

  • Thanks! I agree, they do look like something from an earlier decade. I also needed new shorts and shirts around the same time that I got these, and I decided to just get some completely plain cotton shorts, t-shirts, and tank tops. I like how my current athletic wear would be completely standard at any time between about 1920 and 1970.

  • It's a screen cap from Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster, which was the movie for Monsterdon last Sunday. It's significance is that 1) it is an impressively bad movie, and 2) this character held this grin on his face for like 15 seconds, which was funny.

  • This took me a second to get. Freaking great. :D
