I started having arguments online back on Fidonet and Usenet. I'm too tired to care now.

  • Latest hobby dev: A Hytale mod. Because I've had an itch to scratch since I didn't test this idea in Minecraft 15 years ago when I made mods there :D

  • It's your assumption that I'm not right. That's fine.

  • There are plenty of diverse opinions here. You just don't recognize them as such since they're expressed respectfully instead of polarizing.

  • Correct, but the troll infested discourse in other places polarize everything on purpose to sow discord in society. In Real Life people really are better at voicing different opinions without it looking like pure hatred.

  • You're just used to seeing troll factory inflamed opinions on other platforms. On ad-supported social media moderators don't ban the trolls because "user number go up!". On the fediverse each user is a cost so when we find bad actors we simply eject them promptly.

  • I'm happy with my NanoKVMs

  • Love it. Only thing lacking is to be able to have it start with the actual break without any randomizing.

  • My experience is the opposite actually. I do browse All on Lemmy though just to be able to surface interesting stuff.

  • I drive a Volkswagen ID.7 since soon 2 years now, had a Tesla Model 3 before that. Absolutely love the VW. It's a "real car" with manual controls where you expect them yet all the modernities you can imagine. The AR HUD is absolutely awesome giving you all the relevant information incl. navigation where you're looking without having to take your eyes off the road.

There's a big screen as well though, but it's not something you have to poke at to do regular stuff as in Teslas.

  • I've seen this almost happen due to ignorance. A product making company that is oblivious to the issue until it's pointed out, and then immediately understands why it's an issue and does the right thing. In that case it was mirroring Linux repos instead of constantly pulling from the distribution when it was for their own internal purposes.

If you're working inside an organisation just mentioning this issue might be enough.

  • ... esp. since they'll need to run at extremely low speeds due to the difficulty in cooling them.

I'm starting to think Musk doesn't understand that "space is cold" won't help here.

  • Why is it a bad thing that employees can't pretend to do something they're not?

If you're doing a good job, managers don't care if you spend the afternoon at a café.

  • I dated a 20 year old when I was 34.

I often hear I'm "not like my friends' parents" from my own kids now that I'm 51.

No one has to become like their own parents just because they get older. As long as it's something that you do because it's who you are instead of trying to act younger - where it just becomes cringe - that's "your age".

    /GenX: We just don't gaf.

  • I have no servers that accept external password-login. All use SSH keys.

If you mean the apps you run on the servers, many can use an OAUTH server that you then host for SSO.

  • syac: It's done by jamming GPS in all the areas where there are Starlink tranceivers. Without GPS they don't find the satellites and stops working.

  • Yeah this one isn't very difficult. My GPU isn't using more power running a model in Ollama than when playing games, so, a query needing 30 seconds of GPU power needs as many Wh as playing a game for 30 seconds ...

  • Haven't checked my voicemail in ... 15 years or so. If people want to reach me they can text or call again.

  • "Oh everybody elses stuff sucks but ours really works!"

    Marketing bs.
