  • Are we talking about the ceremony of marriage or the legal contract? I highly recommend committing yourself to a partnership if you find one, but personally I don't see a benefit to government marriage in many cases.

  • In the last few years, Minneapolis has become a sanctuary for Transplants. We'll take care of you!

  • I often remind people that what we refer to as "personality disorders" don't appear out of nowhere. The most narcissistic person you know is paralyzed with fear that they're unlovable. When they speak highly of themselves, they're desperate for you to tell them they're good and special, because they can't find that goodness in themselves. Unfortunately when their efforts repel everyone around them, they end up confirming what they fear the most.

For all the darkness and evil Trump has brought to this world, remember that he's never really felt loved a day in his life.

  • Everyone is entitled to their opinion about why this is happening, and I share yours.

  • Data point: This was addressed in the documentary The Cove, which is about dolphin hunting. Fishing companies insisted that dolphin meat was an important part of the Japanese diet, but when they interviewed folks on the street they looked confused and laughed at the idea of eating a beautiful dolphin.

  • They're asking what the parent commenter meant by "deviant ollam folding scissors."

  • 2C-I is my favorite probably, but I haven't taken it in 15 years and these days it might be too intense for me. I take LSD and MDMA 6-10 times per year though.

  • We need a president who runs the country like a business, i.e. creates a front, scams everyone, then shutters the company to avoid accountability.

  • Same. Even adjusting for inflation, if I went back and told myself 10 years ago what I'd be earning in 2025, past me would think it's "buy-whatever-I-want-money." I can buy everything I need, but I never seem to have much left over.

  • I agree, and to the comment above you, it's not because it's guaranteed to reduce symptoms. There are many ways that talking with another person is good for us.

  • CBT is one treatment for depression - and you should stick with whatever's helpful for you - but it's not THE treatment. In the last couple decades there's been a trend towards more flexible and integrative models like ACT and IFS. These models suggest that our efforts to avoid "bad" thoughts and feelings actually causes more suffering and keeps us stuck. Integrative models focus on allowing those things to exist, or even welcoming them in.

  • Do you have a source on your claim that data centers recycle water? Because these researchers state that 80% of the water is evaporated, and the other 20% is discharged to municipal wastewater facilities.

  • I feel like "willful" implies that everyone is equally capable of distinguishing between facts and lies, and that people aren't easily swayed by propaganda. If the latter were true, the advertising industry wouldn't exist. Republicans have been working to dismantle public education for decades. How many people have been psychologically manipulated like this since before they could speak? They might be "old enough to know better" but did they ever have an opportunity to learn critical thinking skills? Look at what they're teaching kids in Oklahoma. What chance do they have?

  • Thank you for articulating all my thoughts better and faster than I ever could.

  • Right. They don't say what THEY believe, they say what they want YOU to believe.

  • I would argue they also want the government to collect money from taxpayers and distribute it to the rich in the form of subsidies and contracts.

  • This happens in a smaller way with access to prenatal testing and abortions. Parents with access to those things are at least able to detect and avoid the more debilitating birth defect, while parents without access are more likely to have a child with a severe birth defect. If they're already struggling materially, that can sometimes guarantee that both the parents and child will have no upward mobility.

  • Those are paraphrases of Kirk's words. It might be more accurate to say those are his positions.
