  • Xbox Series Vs PS5

  • If you can buy from GOG do it. Need to make sure viable competition sticks around plus they actually let you own the game

  • These are definitely preferable to using straight Google but some of these use Google/Bing to get search results. I'm not sure of the others but Ecosia use Google/Bing for their results and Startpage uses Google. Quant does seem to use their own index but it seems like it was built partially off bing when they first started off. Again, not sure about the others if they have their own index.

    PS: What's wrong with Brits?

  • There are plenty of creators that are worth far more than they are getting from YouTube ads. The only reason I want to move away from YouTube is so that Google doesn't get my attention/money

  • I don't know anything about this pressure campaign you mentioned but do they still work with them? It's not like Kurzgesagt have no say over what the Gates Foundation does. If they still work together then that's not great but the Gates Foundation has also done lots of good stuff too, no? Idk what outweighs what but I think there are organisations that are far worse that we should be concerned about.

  • I mean, Linus's video about a fire truck toy was a gag and that was ages ago. The gags have always been big parts of the videos.

If you want pure information and performance metrics, ltt isn't the place to go for sure. But not every video needs to be dense on plots and performance metrics. They didn't even start out doing that, they transitioned to that from doing unboxings. He's said himself they aren't doing that on the main channel anymore cause others have carved that niche for themselves.

They definitely do more shovelware content these days but unfortunately it does seem to be what big creators do to stay relevant

  • Almost the first half of the video is them saying we haven't been meeting any climate change targets.

I don't think it's copium to highlight the good things that have been changing like the fact wind and solar are straight up the cheapest energy sources. If there was no good news they wouldn't have made the video

  • Tbh, they always had the gags in their videos. I think the do make some really informative and interesting content. Especially their tours of factories or other industrial equipment.

Where they have irked me is with their reaction style videos or their 'top things to buy for whatever holiday'. Whilst they can be entertaining, it is low effort content that often isn't that great. I wish they didn't do them and did more reviews rather than just doing unbox+ on short circuit

  • What video do they deny climat change in? If anything, I find their videos explain the concepts of how it's happening and what it will result it (bad shit) super well.

Imo, I respect them cause they are transparent with the comunity. Of they make a mistake, they will reupload a video of required. Few other channels (especially as big as them) would do that

  • Imo, the fact you know what crontab is indicates your a bit more than a 'basic' user. You can give yourself more credit than that ;).

Anyway, like the other commenter said, depends where your switching from but Zorin is pretty much making Linux as easy to use as possible. They even have a wrapper for bottles that makes installing windows apps with wine easier. I quite like it and would be what I'd suggest to someone who wants a general purpose computer. It's not great for gaming though as they don't use super up-to-date packages so performance is lacking. That being said, it looks great and makes things as easy as possible for noobies

  • Same, if they made a wallet for cards then I'd actually use my phone to pay for stuff

  • Fantastic, wish they prioritised stuff like this instead of AI but at least it's here now. Now please make a dedicated contacts app so I can stop using Google contacts too!

  • Fair enough, I would also prefer if they pushed out an online excel/power point alternative before this or or allowed for more cloud storage.

That being said, I also don't think this is a bad thing to do. It seems to work alright so if they can at least be at that level then that's fantastic. I do wish they pooled their resources with other open source AI models cause that would be more efficient but maybe they have a good reason. I've just not looked into it cause I don't use AI that often

  • Never do what exactly? Continue to be private?

  • Imo, having Proton just copy Google but actually be private is exactly what I want. Of course, if they stray away from privacy then there will be issues. I also feel like they are making good stuff. As a subscriber myself I don't have many issues with their offering other than the stuff they don't provide but Google does.

  • Not again... unzips

  • But Trump was the first president (since the US tried to break up Microsoft) to seriously start thinking about fighting big tech. Obviously for dumb reasons (they hurt his feelings) but still, I don't think that statement is inaccurate. However, it is true he isn't the first politician to say something against big tech. Even so, he was in a position of power to potentially do something about it (even if he never did and likely won't now given how much they are bending the knee)

  • Regardless of what we think of his comments, it's good that he is vocal about his opinions. Makes him seem like a person than some faceless CEO they says nothing.

He just got spicy with this 1 post and it hasn't worked out for him and now the open source community Proton is a part of hate him. There is so much hate that they are leaving Mastodon which is a huge shame
