  • Honestly I’ve use it, it’s good but uses far my resources that it should.

    KOreader is the FOSS alternative and while its interface sucks. Its reader is excellent.

  • Printables has paid models now if you want to support a designer. I remember being recommended MyMiniFactory for more premium print a while ago.

    With that said, I think it depends on what you are looking for and what you are trying to make. I see a lot of comments recommending Blender and FreeCAD. So I wanted to give you alternatives.

    With that said, Blender is for 3D Modeling (think molding with Clay), where as FreeCAD is more like blueprints. Both have a high learning curve, and Blender has a large community to help new users. FreeCAD is getting there, but has a steep learning Curve. TinkerCAD and Fusion from Autodesk may get some hate here (for many good reason), but are the easiest softwares to get into if you want to make mechanical design.

  • While cantilever printers can be an annoying honestly converting your Mini to direct drive will improve print quality more than dual Z motors.

    That said have fun it’s your machine.

  • I grew up with cassettes. Type II was a rarity and not what you’d buy from the store. Those were type I tapes.

    Plus the whole format was a compromise. CDs almost whipped them out, but when digital came both were gone in a flash.

    I think the only benefit of cassette today is making mix tapes, but on a retail and purchasable music standpoint. They weren’t good.

  • I miss iPod. It’s easy to use. Doesn’t spam ads in my face. And the music is my own, I don’t need to pray it doesn’t disappear due to licensing deals.

    CDs suck as a portable format but is nice since it’s like MP3s but not proprietary.

    Cassettes suck, and I don’t miss them.

    Records are a fun novelty. They are the worse format, but the art and the experience is fun especially since I need to be careful what albums I buy. I need to like the whole thing and not just a song or two.

  • This is a lot. Buggier than I’d thought it’d be.

    Tried to change the background color and it crashes the settings app. Search works for exact spelling only and not context or meta data. Search for image and music and you’ll get nothing.

    However there is a lot of potential and it’s what I’d install on a MacBook as an alternative. Maybe next release would be good.

  • I like gnomes features but not gnome itself. Cinnamon is good, but has its faults. Plasma is better but is missing online features (calendar for example can’t be used to create events or sync with your cloud accounts). Really would like to see how Comic a desktop turns out when it’s ready.

  • I think we’ve hit the end times for AI. The biggest player in the space OpenAI couldn’t be profitable by selling its services to business, nor directly to consumers. Subscription moneys nor licensing its models is working too. So the last avenue they have is this, shilling to marketers hoping for scrap.

    On top of Nvidia having to stop selling RAM I think the breaks are about to hit AI and hard once the current supply runs out. I wonder how long that could take?

  • I agree, for a new user everything including installing nvidia drivers is in a GUI. And if you run into issue due to the size of both Mint and its base Ubuntu, searching for the problems usually results in a solution.

  • Zorin pro was the main reason I never stuck with Zorin OS however while they heavily advertise that the price is for the software. I think the real cost comes with “installation support”.

    For many first time users, having support help with an install is a necessity and they will pay for it. See Geek Squad as an excellent example.

    Plus having a preconfigured Linux experience is good for these users.

  • This has been sitting on my project shelf since February of this year. Granted I haven't touched it since Feb, but 9 months is a bit too long for a project like this :P

  • While I agree with a native port. I think work around like this is also good too since it shows demand. I mean it’s why there is a good level of hype around Linux Gaming thanks to Steam and its Proton compatibility layer.

    So long as Affinity isn’t blocked from running like what adobe does. I think this is fine until a universal binary is possible.

  • Destruction of the planet, hardly. The earth has and will shrug of worse than humanity. Thinking otherwise is giving humanity too much credit.

    Destruction of humanity is more likely. We are actively making the earth worse for us, and many other species. But there are many more which will survive and thrive after we destroy ourselves.

  • There are a lot of good reasons from other users in this thread which explains why not to trust the company. My reason is that Manjaro as an OS is broken.

    I’ve ran it on 2 laptops and both had system breaking bugs which corrupted the install after a few months. I tried installing just from their repo I’ve tried being careful when I update but every time the system would one day update and never turn back on.

    Arch especially AUR supported arch is amazing. But Manjaro isn’t the way to use it.
