  • The main world championship and title of GM is open to everyone, so it's not truly split.

There are FIDE women only tournaments but that's due to there being less participation of women. When you have something like this where the skill distribution is gaussian, if you have like 50 women compete and 1000 men, you will notice that it's extremely unlikely for a woman to ever reach 1st place just due to statistics. Replace women and men with brown hair and blond hair and you'd see the same phenomenon.

The tail of the statistics where you see extreme deviations of improved skill would be dominated by the population with much larger participation.

To counter this, they have women only tournaments so that you always have a woman in 1st place in some tournament, basically to improve participation and convince more girls to play when they're young.

There are of course probably other factors but these things improve participation and are meant to help get more women in chess, not separate them out.

  • I did the exact same after. Love that service.

No hidden fees... Because if you try to charge past that limit I set, it gets denied lol

  • Some of them not so easily, no. I had a subscription where I had to call and get forwarded twice over an hour to get someone who kept asking what they had to do to keep my service, dropping fees and halving my monthly rate for 6 months, etc. They make it really hard to cancel.

  • Honestly it's fucking evil. I had cards expire and thought, awesome, finally done with those subscriptions! Then I noticed I was still getting charged for them on my brand new card.

We've let them take our money, manage it for us, and now they're turning around and saying "don't worry, you'll still get everything you need ... Just turn over your finances and decisions to us".

    Fuck this

  • We know this, but they're gambling on current children to be raised in this world and not know any different.

    Teach them different.

  • They want to close the loop and get the human out of it

  • I used to think that but I'm also noticing a pattern where it is just a waste of time and energy.

AI generates the big wordy email that sounds super formal. Someone else uses AI to summarize that email.

It's like a dumb idea is decompressed and recompressed immediately and unnecessarily. We should never be using AI to do shit like write blogs or lots of words. That should be the human. It should only ever summarize if that's it's purpose. But inevitably, people get lazy and want it to write their article...

  • Sometimes I just keep clicking these things over and over and have them regenerate new prompts and keep spending tokens just so they think they got a surge in engagement but I couldn't give a fuck less and just want to burn as many of their tokens as possible before I never visit their site again

  • yep I've seen plumbers talk about how they can and have proven this shit for court

  • Why not both

  • Do you carry a big thing of water around with you to hydrate? Super gay

  • Price went up along with the hardware power though. RPi 1 had 700 Mhz and 512 MB of ram, versus rpi5 at 2.4 Ghz quad core modern arm, 800 MHz GPU, and from 1 to 16 GB of ram lol.

It went from "oh cool I can run a small web server easy! A full Linux computer can fit in my pocket and I can bring it anywhere!" to basically gaming laptop specs of that early era.

You can basically get a pi zero 2w for less today than the rpi 1, and it's smaller and more powerful than the rpi1. I would say the price is damn reasonable.

And the microcontroller options these days... You can get a TON for cheap.

  • pacman -Sy greypoupon

  • 2016 you mean?

  • yep this is just someone misunderstanding pointers lol

  • With the economy of scale, it is probably cheaper to just drop a microcontroller in products

  • I believe lithium ion batteries need custom chips just to charge and discharge smartly

Shit, even connecting to modern USB c to negotiate voltage you need chips

  • They should absolutely ban disposable but as long as they're smart about it and don't try and make it a general vape ban. Anything with a microcontroller and OLED display should need regulation to be "disposable". So fucking wasteful.

Vapes can and have always been something you can pop a battery and cartridge and custom juice in. There's zero reason to make it disposable. Make the coil/cotton/juice cartridge disposable... Like a juul was last I checked? That's reasonable.

And then next regulate how much nicotine can be in per ml. 60mg/ml is fucking insane. That is heart issue level of nicotine. I got buzzed off 12 mg/ml, used 3 or 6mg/ml regularly, and quit at 1.5mg/ml. There's no fucking reason other than harm and addiction to provide 60mg/ml.

  • The person is complaining about rigged elections being fake news. Someone is going to be upset. Even if we see cycled parties, it isn't proof there hasn't been any trickery. In the US it would mean focusing on a specific battleground state.

Elon was heavily hinting at helping do funny shit, saying that Trump wouldn't have won without him. I've seen reports from staticians talking about oddness about the last one.

So yeah I think there's plenty to disagree about, even if you're not MAGA.
