  • We're not arguing about the validity of our opinions. What a waste of time that would be! :) All opinions are valid.

What we're arguing is whether the banned user's post constituted a sidebar rule violation of my instance (it did) and whether or not it was considered a bannable offense (it was).

  • This is the comment that got the user banned.

The contempt and hostility of the comment and the fact that it targets an entire demographic were the specific criteria which cost the user their membership here. Further, allowing it sets precedent for more such comments in the future. I'm not willing to tacitly endorse it by letting the user go with a warning.

    Does that make sense?

  • I'm not concerned with Reddit as I don't moderate it. :) I moderate my instance, and have had no complaints. Please understand that by banning hate speech, I'm keeping my users safe from it. I don't care if you don't like it; you're welcome to host your own instance or create an account under someone else's governance.

  • My priorities in life have nothing to do with this discussion. The topic is penalty for a sidebar rule violation. Please focus. Why do you disagree that banning someone for violating the rules of my instance should result in a ban?

  • Please stay on topic, this won't take long.

They violated front page sidebar rules of my instance, so I banned them. What part of the process do you disagree with?

  • It's not ok to treat people like subhumans for any reason, and I'm glad you don't subscribe to it.

I'm sorry about your situation. It sounds more difficult than most Americans could handle by themselves.

  • If you think I'm strict enough to be called a "martinet" then I'd recommend you don't create an account on my instance. My sidebar rules are simple and clear, and the penalty for violating them is up to my discretion. If that's not a strategy you agree with then I'd encourage you to start your own instance. Good luck!

  • I'm wondering if your hatred of strangers is a symptom of poor parenting. Have you spoken to a professional about this?

  • Cute clip! I loved Firefly.

However it doesn't refute my statement. Thank you

  • Do you hate people of your same gender?

Do you hate people of your same religious/atheist beliefs?

Do you hate people belonging to your family?

Why would you hate your fellow citizens just because you share a relationship with them?

  • Why "fuck the USA" ? Many citizens of the US are suffering despite doing everything in their power to oust the fascist regime in power. Do you really hate those people? They did nothing to you.

Let's have a dialogue. Explain yourself.

  • I myself enjoy a chuckle as much as the next person.

But by letting users get away with nation-phobic behavior I'm setting a bad example for the rest of my users. I made it clear that targeted hatred isn't welcome on Redlemmy.com, and now I'm standing by my promise.

  • Banning someone for a sidebar rule violation? You're lucky to be so privileged - most of us have to deal with far, far worse behavior from people. And those of us in positions of authority, such as moderators and instance admins, have to do so with tact. I'd envy you if I had the time.

    Have a day. 🫱
