  • By competition I think they (big AI) wants to outlaw running free and open local models. Can't have felony contempt of business model

  • Easy setup to be a HTPC with (usually) no fuss. Gaming focused to be a Steam Machine before the Steam Machine. I'm definitely looking at an immutable distro for my HTPC when I get around/afford to building one. I'm still hopeful that content providers will make native interfaces for both Steam Big Picture and KDE Plasma Big Screen.

  • Ed... ward?

    Edit: that downvote was deserved.

  • I do grow crops on it.

  • Mine is 8100. Everything I was looking at, at that time, could only handle half at best.

  • My problem with them was they never seemed to be able to handle a yard large enough in order to justify their price.

  • And alternative stores with alternative servers so I don't have to buy a subscription for online capabilities and the ability to install whatever software I want... I guess a PC will do just fine.

  • Just wanted to share because I've seen people act like it's some anti-democratic conspiracy that these (bad) laws are going into place.

Democracy at its worst is tyranny of the masses. It's 2 wolves and 1 sheep voting on what's for dinner. Classifying it as antidemocratic isn't the right frame of mind. It's more anti-freedom and anti-minor rights.

  • I would imagine you could host a BBS on them. Doubt it could handle many if even concurrent connections

  • Undecided Matt Ferrell did this with his new home minus the springs, he uses his underground for geothermal. I'm basically doing a retrofit. Solar panels on roof and in my yard if I need them to meet demand. Sodium batteries if I can get a good deal, else I'll find a wrecked EV on the cheap and get the batteries.

  • Here me out, talk to your neighbors, form a co-op and supply it via solar farm and battery bank

  • That's my plan, I'm cutting myself off from the grid. My electric company announced rate increases just 2 weeks ago. AI data center rumors while pro AI data center propaganda is being aired on commercial slots on local news affiliates. They are slow boiling the frog

  • And today's Apple isn't yesterday's Apple either or the one from the 2010s. I'm just saying I bet Apple expected another cheese grater or all aluminum design reminiscent of a cybertruck from Ive if they let him design the exterior.

  • You must not remember the beige boxes they had in the 80s and 90s

  • I guess I misremembered then. Once I saw this car, my suspicion is that this may have been the canceled Apple car. My theory is Apple saw how much it cost: or something and decided to sell to Ferrari to recoup some of their investment. Apple's biggest mistake (or saving grace to keep them out of this industry) would have been to not let him design the whole thing and Ferrari was left with this.

  • That's because it was designed by Jony Ive.

  • It's all gotta start somewhere.
