  • A demo that was open to the public (as in, not stage managed) where people could have the "agents" perform complex tasks without failing on a regular basis. Large training models are notoriously bad at anything they haven't been trained to do. They're worlds away from being able to interpret a new situation and "figure it out."

  • That would impress me so much I'd die and come back to life.

  • Let's line up all the starving people who are being genocided and shot at aid stations so they can each give him a kiss on the ass for all the good he's done for them. What a pig.

  • Yes, but only people who are super OCD about cable management would spend the time. I have a buddy who's really good at cable management. You could bring your computer to California and maybe he'll do it for you if you buy him lunch.

  • Antifa is coming for your small town to wreak havoc.

Fucking morons. Antifa doesn't give a shit about you rural rubes. They're fighting fascists in major urban areas, dumbasses.

  • Best laugh of the day so far. Someone deserves a fist bump for this one.

  • Kinda like how he stopped the killing in Gaza and Ukraine. The man is a master diplomat. /s

Reminds me of when he took credit for opening an Apple factory in Texas that actually opened in 2013.

President Trump said on Wednesday that he opened a facility that makes computers for Apple. It’s been operating since 2013.

If I were a shameless liar, I might be able to score unearned success. Sadly, I have a sense of morality and may only attain what I earn. Which is fine with me because I'm doing ok, but it might be nice to rake in millions or billions in bullshit grift and graft and somehow never face real consequences. Too bad I'm not evil.

  • This feels like a great time to recommend a song by a parody-hate band, S.O.D.: Kill Yourself.

Please understand that this band was formed by Scott Ian, of Anthrax, in the 80s. This was a time when you could mock hateful racists and people understood that it was a joke. I wouldn't support a band saying that now, because I'd consider the excuse that it was a joke to be a front for their actual beliefs, as we've seen with people who are "just asking questions."

Anthrax and Public Enemy teamed up on Bring Tha Noise because Anthrax liked rap. Aerosmith teamed up with Run DMC because their manager / producer / someone convinced them to. Anthrax was genuinely not about hate.

Bonus trivia: Scott Ian now plays with Mr Bungle. Just as S.O.D's titular song was called Speak English or Die, Mr Bungle now plays a song called Habla Español O Muere (Speak Spanish or Die). If you can't judge that the former was a parody by the evolution of the theme, I don't know what to tell you.

    Edit: formatting and more info.

  • Remember when conservatives used to say it was a choice? If it was a choice, I would have lost my virginity a lot sooner.

  • "Don't look behind the curtain. There is no man behind the curtain!"

  • I sent this link to a friend who's really into internet radio (like CB used to be cool for nerds) who also loves to 3d print. He lives in a plains state, where this should work really well.

  • I have a book to recommend:

Imagine a world where your phone is too big for your hand, where your doctor prescribes a drug that is wrong for your body, where in a car accident you are 47% more likely to be seriously injured, where every week the countless hours of work you do are not recognised or valued. If any of this sounds familiar, chances are that you’re a woman.

-Invisible Women, by Caroline Criado Perez.

I believe I first heard her interviewed on the 99% Invisible Podcast.

  • "I don't know why Trump wants this to go away, but we're not letting it," Wyden said. "No one gets to sweep this under the rug."

Ooh, Senator! I think I might know.

  • Just make every question about the files.

Trump: We just passed another bill that'll be great for America.

Press: And how does that bill affect the Epstein files?

Trump: There was a mass shooter in New York.

Press: Do the Epstein files contain info about Epstein talking about mass shootings?

Trump: I'm flying to Russia to suck Putin's dick.

Press: Do the Epstein files indicate that he sucked Putin's dick with you?

  • I may be a cis male, but if I can't get some from the ladies, bring on the guys!

I honestly had to reread it and think for a moment before I got it, but to my credit, I just woke up.

  • No, don't talk to their boss. They aren't on your side. Talk to your boss. Any good boss will be an advocate for their team. I've often taken things up the ladder saying, "I know others feel the same way, but I'm not going to say names because I don't want to out them if they aren't comfortable saying it themselves."

Anyway, being diplomatic is pretty important if you don't want to be labeled a squeaky wheel.

  • I built a homelab and taught myself a lot from forums and books and tutorials. I had an in-person interview lined up after I passed a phone interview, but another company offered me a job and financially I couldn't take the risk. If I didn't take it and the Linux gig didn't pan out, I'd be in dire straits.

I'm still not a Linux Sysadmin, but I continue to use it for personal server stuff (the company that hired me was primarily a Windows shop). That was seven years ago and now I work at a state agency (would recommend; I might retire there).

I might try for the Linux team at my current org at some point in the future, but I really like my boss and job duties where I am now.

  • Reminds me of trying to break into Linux Sysadmin work. Every entry-level job required five years of experience.
