  • Looks cool, but it sounds like yt-dlp may be about to break? Someone posted a screen shot of youtube.com with a recaptcha on the screen. If that can't be bypassed, it was just a matter of time.

  • You could also look at non-federated sites, the kind that have often been around longer than reddit. Heck, maybe there is enough audience on Lemmy to have a community around it on one of the bigger servers. lemmynsfw afaik is mostly a porn site (it feeds through to the "all" page) and chirp.social looks dead/domain squatted.

  • I don't see much need to retain or upload dashcam video unless something happens. It's so you can document what happened if you're in a crash, get a ticket, or whatever. Otherwise just re-use the storage. You don't need to permanently record every moment of your life.

  • Some people use TPM hardware for this. Others (big cloud operators) have a ton of complicated infrastructure involving among other things special key servers on a walled off LAN. I don't know a really satisfying answer, so will keep watching the thread.

  • There's not really an abstract answer. It's all system specific. But basically you find code addresses from a linker dump or similar. I haven't used Arduino but remember messing with that with SDCC for an STM8. Same idea most likely.

  • I hate to say this but Spezzit is still interesting for that.

  • I hadn't heard of Leslie Knope. I looked her up and ok, but Archibald Tuttle from Brazil is more my style. Heh.

  • Cute. I wanted to make something like that for my mom (so friends and family could message her on it, not for strangers) but I never got around to it. She knew how to use email but didn't check it very often, so a printer would have been more immediate. It would have to have been an impact printer though, since another family member (probably correctly) wanted to stay away from thermal paper on health grounds.

Maybe this is what you saw:

  • 1000 hp = 0.75 MW. If 98% efficient that's 15KW of heat dissipation Sounds like a subsystem bigger than the motor.

  • libvirt comes with some gui tool of its own, though I haven't used it. I generally prefer to understand what I'm doing, so I use command line tools or API's at first. GUI's are a convenience to use later, once it's clear how they work.

  • I would say going to college makes you a more complete person (or at least it did for me) so it's worth it even on just that basis. You get a broader outlook on life and you get to know people who would be harder to meet in other places.

In terms of your paycheck though, as always, it depends.
