  • At this point, this movie is probably older than most of the people that use this meme template.

  • I like Finamp, but one thing that comes to mind is if I try to reorder the tracks on the queue, it doesn't work as expected. It moves different tracks instead, it's very buggy.

  • Kentarou Miura. Berserk is my favorite manga, I discovered it while going through a really tough time, and it helped me a lot. I read it a couple times over and over, and I impatiently waited for new chapters.

A couple years later, Miura-sensei died of heart issues, aged 54. Felt like a slap on the face, after all those jokes about how he was never going to finish Berserk because he was playing too much idol master. I still cry about it from time to time, when I have a bad day.

    Rest in peace.

  • If I understand correctly, you can use pgrep to get the IDs of the processes you need.

  • From the issue you shared:

Thank you b4too - unless something new has been uncovered - which if so should be reported to us via our responsible disclosure policy - it is NOT possible to arbitrarily enumerate all media on a server without authentication, and saying as much is massive fear-mongering

  • Unfortunately that doesn't seem possible, afaik. Although you could always create a zip file with a password, and share it with an open link (anyone with the link can download it, no need for account).

  • Maybe something like xbackbone? I've used it to share small-ish files and it works fine; I don't know how much of a pain it would be to use for a group of people, but as long as everyone has an account they should be able to access files with a link.

  • Have you ever talked to kids? Do you think just explaining it will make them voluntarily not use their phones during class? I'm not opposed to talking to them about it, in fact I do think it's good and necessary. But you can't assume they are just going to stop using them.

Why do we ban smoking indoors, if people already know it's bad and it negatively affects the people around them? Well, because most people don't care and do it anyways. And that's adults.

What parents and teachers should do is give kids alternatives on their free time, like toys, books, and making them socialize, so that they learn there is more to life than screens. But in class they should be learning, and I'm sure any teacher nowadays can tell you how bad phones are for kids' attention.

  • I'd say managing their phone use includes not using them at school; it's not like they can't use them outside.

  • If you want to prompt ChatGPT 40 times, you can just stop your shower 1 second early. [...]

Notably, Andy's calculations here are all based on the widely circulated higher-end estimate that each ChatGPT prompt uses 3 Wh of energy.

So, 1s of shower is supposed to be 40*3Wh, or 120Wh? That's, what, a 432000W heater? I'm not running a small nuclear power plant to shower in the morning.

  • I use suspend-then-hibernate on my laptop (arch). It has a Nvidia graphics card, so it gives problems sometimes, but it mostly works fine.

I set it up like that in case I disconnect the laptop, so it will hibernate before running out of battery; it will also hibernate after 16h of being suspended (to save power), but I usually turn it back on before that.

I like suspending because my laptop has an HDD, and it is way faster to turn it back on this way.

  • Maybe there's not a huge difference, but the power usage of suspending is definitely lower, since only the RAM is getting power. CPU and disks have some idle power consumption, and you can have some background processes that wouldn't be executed while suspended.

  • I'm guessing that it notifies you before the cert expires, because I already have a great notification system for the server not working: I'll always get a text from a friend within minutes asking why it's not working :P

  • France is bacon... Just kidding. Not exactly mishearing, but I misunderstood "the best defense is a good offense" as if you defend super well, you'd attack your opponent with your defense. It didn't make much sense until I realized you're supposed to attack in order to defend...

  • He looks 40-45. Being Asian doesn't make you immortal (although I'm jealous of their skin).

Edit: according to wikipedia he's 40-41, so I was right on the money :P

  • October is going to be a great month to get a cheap second hand computer.
