  • I mean it’s definitely helping, but not in the way I imagined. It is becoming a major driver of CO2 emissions due to the large computational power if needs, which will only increase in the future. The planet is boiling, and they will keep building more server farms for the next LLM upgrade, giving up on stopping/controlling climate change.

  • A true marvel of engineering, pushing the boundries of business and technology

  • Interesting, for me it was the opposite.

When I had to go back to the office, I started burning cooking oil and truck tires in my backyard every weekend, so my ecological footprint increased significantly

  • Do you have some good examples? I recently moved there, and want to avoid Amazon, when possible

  • Exactly. It’s like reading instagram or youtube comments, everybody just shouting 1 liners to a crowded/empty room, with no converstations starting.

Now compare this to the structured convos on former reddit or current lemmy, and I have no idea why people want to interact another way.

  • The normies are not the problem, they are the victims. The abusers are the giant corporation manipulating the masses and monetizing a publicly funded infrastructure for their own gains.

  • AI is like having an intern you can delegate to. If you give it a simple enough task with clear direction, it can come up with something useful, but you need to check.

  • They should remove the USB-C ports, so you have to send it back to Apple for charging

  • You’re right, but these fundamentals don’t really matter anymore, investors are buying hype and hoping to sell a bigger hype for more money later.

  • “You might lose all your money, but that is a risk I’m willing to take”

    • visionairy AI techbro talking to investors
  • Holy shit, the crypto bros are really triggered by this, out in full force in the comments. If the only argument you can bring for crypto is that you make/made money on it, that sounds a lot like a Ponzi scheme

  • Is there an AI technology that would help me not roll my eyes every time I hear AI? Can’t wait to add this to the garbage pile of popped bubbles next to NFT, blockchain and metaverse.

And I’m saying that as somebody who uses LLMs for work regularly, it is a useful tool, but the absolute delusional bullshit hype that imagines uses beyond its capabilities is exhausting.

  • That’s it, they need to roll out ads in BIOS
