Looks like this is probably going to be on the ballot in Nov.
Hopefully some other blue states can also grab a seat here and there. This will nullify Texas, but not the other little seats gerrymandering gains around the nation.
In a month CA lawyers / legislators found a creative way around the 2008 / 2010 redistricting laws, they drafted new maps, they found a way around the legislative waiting periods, and they’re about get legislators to vote yes in their last session before Nov.
Maybe is they really hauled ass they could’ve done this in half a month, but a month is pretty damn fast.
I’d also argue that the bully pulpit doesn’t mean much in this case. Legislators often vote against maps when it doesn’t favor them, and most of the democratic incumbents will be fine after this.
Also, the legislature doesn’t need to take a stand, the can simply say “I wanted to let the people decide.”
It’s a super safe vote for the CA legislators. They have little to lose.
The state legislature looks like it will vote yes this week, and redistricting will likely go to the public in 3 months.
Redistricting is in the hands of the people in CA, so this will all depend on how pissed off people are and or how much disinformation is flying around the state.
I want to know if the settlement forces Newmax to repeatedly tell its viewers that Newmax intentionally lied to them and peddled disinformation in support of a coup.
These morons are so god damned shortsighted. America’s massive investments in science is on of the main reasons its industrial and technological sectors have dominated the world.
One of those things triggers after a bunch of states fight long hard battles to update their constitutions. The other one triggers as soon as a single opponent gerrymanders.
It’s also worth noting that CA has only been free of gerrymanders for a little over a decade. The’ve gerrymandered before and they can do it again.
The blue state ain’t bluer yet. State senate has to ok it, the voters have to approve in November.
