  • A lot of this information is public because they had to file their campaign spend with the FEC. They spent a fuck ton buying ad spots on social media, TV, billboards, print, etc.

  • To be fair, Prime Video was always going to suck. It’s a perk to get you to subscribe to retail service. The goal is and will always be, “how can I get these people to buy stuff from Amazon.”

  • My only problem is that matter support usually means “basic functionality” for your IOT devices. On / off, hot / cold, etc. You typically still have to create an account with a proprietary app to configure more nuanced things. For example, the shape and soil characteristics of my irrigation zones, the motion section trigger areas of my cameras, the fade and trim setting of my light switches, etc.

I don’t know how you sort this mess out. I’d love to never install a 3rd party app for IOT stuff, but I don’t see that happening anytime remotely soon.

  • This guy sucks, but IMHO, more energy should be spent on tanking people like Patel and RFK. They’re an even bigger threat to American citizens.

  • The problem isn’t the alert itself, it’s that cops put Twitter links in the alert. If you want to see what the car, suspect, or victim look like, you need to be able to access Twitter.

Police have been doing this for years now. It’s a fast a cheap way to microblog without buying or supporting something with the city’s budget.

  • “You can’t get fooled again.”

  • The fact that people consider Nixon “normal” shows how crazy shit has become.

  • “Half a century” is the big challenge in that sentence. The Manhattan project started in 42 and Japan was bombed in 45.

They also had near slips with the press and foreign espionage happening within the project. That would’ve been real tough to keep secret from the public for decades.

  • It’s not the size of the organization, it’s the size of the team with a particular piece of information, and the monetary or moral pressure to release a particular piece of information.

Also, the NSA famously has had leakers. The biggest and most notable being Snowden in 2013.

  • If you’ve ever tried to coordinate more than 50 people to do a thing, you quickly realize why people refer to management and leadership jobs as “herding cats.”

If someone gave me the option of faking the moon landing or going to the moon, I’d gladly strap a submarine to a missile.

It be fucking impossible to coordinate hundreds of people on the world’s biggest secret, then make them and their families abide by media training for half a century.

  • The password is manager

  • Lies. Your Lemmy password is not manager.

  • This is what news would look like if GitHub became a news site.

  • “Copyright industry” is such a weird term. Why not use the term everyone already knows, media companies.

  • Everyone thinks this talk will be about MS, but don’t forget, Gates’ work these days is around his foundation, and its work that Trump’s MAGA base hates. The Gates’ Foundation focuses on developing / promoting / distributing vaccines, gender equality, public education, etc.

  • Homie still has a shitload of MS stock, but he’s not running the company or on the board anymore.

A lot of his interactions with world leaders is because of the Gates Foundation these days. I can’t imagine that he’s stoked about RFK given all of the vaccine work he’s been doing.

Also, Gates is the subject of a lot of vaccine conspiracy theories that are promoted by the MAGA nuts. I imagine he wants to mitigate that by talking to, or striking a deal with, the MAGA king.

  • True, although shady Amazon sellers will probably still sell you a fire hazard cord that isn’t to spec.

  • lol. This will piss Trump off so much.

Edit: This story is over a year old. Come on OP.

  • Don’t fall for the distractions, focus on the destructive and fascist things he wants to do.
