  • Yeah, I've always hated that about Apple, and I primarily use Apple products. They have opened up a little bit in the last few years though. Like in macOS you can choose from a few different accent colors, you can turn borders on around buttons (I think that's a contrast setting in accessibility), you can turn off transparency, and you can change the color of your mouse cursor (mine is now hot pink—never lose sight of it).

  • I mean, I'm not entirely opposed to some translucency and gloss if it doesn't get in the way of legibility. For me early Mac OS X 'Aqua' circa 2003 is the peak of that aesthetic.

Any UI theme should also be applied consistently. What I hated about Vista is the Aero theme was only surface deep. You were always only a few clicks away from some program that look liked it hadn't been updated since Windows 95.

  • I've run into gen-z people talking very nostalgically about 2000s UI design trends. They've even retroactively dubbed the era as 'futiger aero'.

I'm a bit older and don't as fondly remember that era; I remember a lot of excesses like nonsensical reflections and calendar apps with leather textures. The 2013 turn to "flat" design felt quite fresh to me, and I haven't really gotten tired of it yet.

  • thanks!

  • Anyone have a link to a version large enough for a 4k wallpaper?

  • Could someone explain this please? I'm still a noob.

  • It's a bit tenuous to me to say that it's "made of shit". Made from shit yes, but it's no longer shit at that point. It's made from atoms that were originally part of molecules that comprised shit.

Fertilizer is often (most often?) made from shit. Would you say the plants that grow from shit are "made of shit"?

  • They're very easy to install. It's almost as easy as installing a shower head.

There are also compact battery powered portable handheld bidets that work about as well as the real thing. I have one I take with me on trips.

  • Not a protector per se, but I put this cover on my iPad that makes it feel like paper when you write on it. The cover magnetically attaches so I can put it on and take it off as needed.

  • I've had a mid-tier OLED tv the last few months. The colors and contrast look phenomenal to me. You get true black on OLED since each pixel is individually lit.

I watch a lot of horror films which will have many dimly lit or night time scenes. OLED makes those scenes much easier to see because of increased contrast between dark and light.

  • So many people think Mac is an acronym for whatever reason, as in "Do you use MAC or PC?".

I don't know why they think this. It was never formatted that way in any of Apple's marketing materials.

It really annoys me. In my head when I read it I hear "MAC" pronounced in the voice of Gilbert Godfrey.

I'm guessing they're confusing it with MAC addresses? They probably saw the term somewhere and wrongly assumed it had something to do with Apple Macs.

  • Is this edition of Looney Tunes available on blu-ray? The Max version was a 4k restoration based off new scans of the film iirc.

  • What country are its servers located?

  • The peak of AI for me was generating images Muppet versions of the Breaking Bad cast; it's been downhill since.

  • What's the lemmy version of "the narwhal bacons at midnight"?

  • What is Earth sitting on?

  • Was this one of those jump scare pranks?

  • Throw in birthday candles, rubber bands, and a few coins and you got yourself a proper junk drawer.
