  • Same. I'd use the rest to get solar and dig a well if there was some left.

  • Hold up. You don't want hard soap? I think that's what most of the "making soap" advice in this thread is about.

  • Lye will NOT do that to your skin. I buy in it bulk (99% pure sodium hydroxide) for various cleaning/restoring projects and for making soap. I've stuck in hand in a saturated bucket. You'll get instantly slimy as the lye converts your skin oils to soap, and you WILL find tiny cuts you didn't know were there, but it's not going to instantly burn through your flesh.

Anyway, there's no lye in the final soap product, no lie! Soap making is a chemical, not a physical, reaction.

  • I've had that! Guy from the Greek grocery was at my company's open house, giving out a bar with every olive oil purchase. Had no idea how long a bar lasted because I would lose track before replacing it.

One night I was watching a YT video on making soap and there were my boys! (I know it was them because of the stamp.)

That got me started on making my own. First batch was perfect, subsequent batches refuse to dry properly.

  • Mommy (or daddy) ain't teaching this stuff. My mom (silent gen) barely taught me laundry as she assumed I would have a woman to do it.

My kid's mom (Gen X) does EVERYTHING for them. When they're at my house I'm non-stop showing, teaching and getting them involved with domestic chores.

When we (Gen X) got to college, none of the guys on my dorm floor knew how to manage laundry.

    tl;dr: It's not the kid's fault.

  • How much is bleach in Canada?! A generic gallon is around $6 at Walmart, which, while stupid expensive for bleach, that gallon will last 16-32 loads (1/2 cup vs. 1 cup).

Even without bleach, try washing whites on hot. And wash them by themselves! I divide everything into black, white and whatever. No fuzzies on the black, white stays white, and whatever. :)

  • I bleach stuff with color all the time. No idea how and when the machine mixes the bleach, but everything comes out nicely. I've had other machines that apparently dumped the bleach in there and ruined things.

NOTE! Pure cotton will bleach. You don't bleach a cotton T-shirt with color in it!

One more tip: I do the bleach load last and hit the "extra rinse" button. Not sure it makes a difference with my current machine, but it's helped on models I had in the past. Some of those would hold bleach somewhere and drop some on the next load.

  • What part of the plant is used? I have a couple of bushes.

  • My wife's heart medication, which is not a daily thing, only on demand, is staggering without insurance. Her kids in the Philippines send it to her for $10.

  • Since the Big Beautiful Bill killed my Obamacare, I stopped going to the doctor. Starting to build up some problems but my wife just got "promoted" off the temp company and the insurance isn't much more for both of us than only her.

  • Go sell that where you work! You and I are not the customer, business is the customer, and catering to enterprise is a whole 'nother ball game.

  • Yeah but try fucking around with Excel like that! Killed, golden goose, all that.

  • Bingo! But MS has managed all that brilliantly with Excel, mainly by NOT fucking with it.

  • My last job used Google for email, auth across multiple apps and office productivity. Worked fairly well, but HR and Accounting still needed Office.

I argued Active Directory would be as cheap or cheaper and far easier to manage, AND give us options we didn't have. For some reason that whole place hated AD.The misconceptions were staggering, as if all they knew was from Windows Server 2003.

  • No one said Apple was a good company, just better for privacy.

Cook was giving a toddler a shiny for favoritism. That's pathetic on Trump, not Tim.

  • Until I read the last sentence, I had no idea what you were talking about. You sound like you could whip up a media center PC easy enough. The machine I'm typing this on doubles as our media center. I have to take the mouse to the coffee table for a movie remote, but that's the only hassle, and it isn't a hassle for me.

I feel like the tech is already in place. What do you want that isn't out there?

  • Been shouting at clouds forever. Capitalism ain't the problem, it's the unfettered mergers and near monopolies. When I was a kid, the FCC/FTC would have laughed. "No, you can't control that much media."

    Now? Exactly as you said.

  • Both our TVs are Rokus, internet connected and I've been too lazy to configure the firewall. Only ads I see are on the home menu screen, and those are slightly annoying but unobtrusive.

Wife's TV in the bedroom is only used for YT. (I think, that's her thing.) Mine's a second monitor for my PC to watched pirated content.

Where and how are people seeing ads?
