  • When someone asks me what is love next time - i show them this - find someone who will wear dinosaur costumes with you and is happy

  • Do not overthink simple things - one spends a lot of time finding answers to things they were already sitting upon. If you are not happy with who you are today - then try to find what is it that makes you unhappy, and try to fix it, that is, if it is something fixable. Somethings can not be fixed, and sometimes are better left as is, or sometimes, you can learn to embrace them.

  • we need more people studying particle physics in free time

  • is it too late for me to "teknikally - at trains de Broglie wavelength, the decoherence length is probably of the order of size of proton or maybe even less, so actually, the system became deterministic, pretty much as soon as trains started moving, and our lever pulling can only change the results between the (no certain death) and (certain death), and expectatition value of death is now just classical addition of probablities of these added (and not the wave additions) and so, non of the interpretations are required"

  • let me ask you, you either would be a "barely undergrad" or a "post doc" and nothing between, so who are you - (and no, a superposition of those 2 is not allowed)

  • I see, you beleive in drowning your plants once in a fortnight, and abbsolutely forgetting for the rest of time. I have heard it helps the roots get deeper.

  • I am going to make a guess here, but I think humans might not even require this, we are farely unique (not unique per se, but it is rare i think (just primate family)) in our height class, higher than most quadraped stuff, but not high enough to be of the size of trees, so most noise either comes from above us, or below us, or at same height as us, and mostly heights coming from our own height usually would not be scary. And at small enough distances, we could easily tell source of noise from above or below (purely by being practised to know what source could produce what intensity at what distance) and at a longer distance where the difference would be small (relative to each other) we as may as well consider them same and treeat them same. All hypothesising, but I would guess we would loose the need quickly enough, considering tilting would mess up with our usuall visual processing, which we do much better, it would not be useful to hurt our better skill for something not useful

  • *80% of humanity

  • tell me honestly, what sounds better doctor of the universe, or master of the universe

  • that is like final boss level difficulty

  • reinventing shell scripting. Though I am guilty of this, I do something like this (more complex) but essentially a shell script in rust just because for some application, reading files is slower that way

  • not going to lie, I am in this picture and I don't like it

  • very well put

  • Is redlib working for you? for me, if I host for me, I get rate limited after 1st post, and have to use the public instances (slower, but they work).

  • I never had a account - I had 2 uses for reddit - 1 was memes (and a few other communities (commandline and localllama)) - this I did with rss feeds. And searching for things with reddit added, to get opinions by humans.

commandline and localllama still stay as rss feeds, but for memes, I just use my local lemmy feedd. Can't replace searching, though I try to not use search engine's at all these days (can't eliminate them, but using them for the cases where I have not yet found a particular source to direct my searches) but for the reddit results, I use redlib frontend.

I don't feel bad - because there is definitely good stuff there that was posted by humans (alongside a ton of trash, which probably outnumbers the good stuff 1:10), but I hope that lemmy eventually has enough stuff.

  • I currently don't do that (can not replace the treasure trove in reddit yet) but you can edit default search engine url and add something like

    site:lemmy.world/ site:lemmy.ml/ site:lemm.ee/ site:sh.itjust.works/ site:lemmy.dbzer0.com/ site:lemmy.ca/ site:programming.dev/ site:lemmy.blahaj.zone/ site:discuss.tchncs.de/ site:spouli.xyz/

and make a seperate search engine shortcut for this. But as others have said, google is not great for this.

If you use searxng, then you can also include instance searches in default results . There is a seperate social media page(just like you have image or video tab), enable lemmy and mastodon stuff and use that.

  • yes, if I am not wrong, very early writings used something else, but as printing was becoming common, they wanted to use something from standard typewriter keys, and x was a good option (it also helps even the wear out i think)

  • fairly sure licking S, Mg, O, N (and many more, not going through all) is not a good idea (Assuming in non compound pure element atomic gas). If we make compounds (O2, N2, S8), even then Mg and S8 are still toxic

  • last one got me
