  • thank you, hearing from a person of GSM definitely gives me a better perspective.

but usually there is a ‘prefer not to say’ option.

I do not like that option (it kinda feels like hiding a crime or something). But where I live, most of the time, it is just male/female/others. That still feels harsh, and kinda in line of saying all other "gender minorities" but still feels a bit blunt.

If respecting a non-trans person’s gender would be doing the same things, to you, then sure

Pardon me, but I did not understand this sentence at all. Can you please elaborate (or eli5) it?

  • I am sorry, but it kinda because of the cultural non separation of these 2 concepts in my mother tongue. I did explain it a bit more in another comment

  • Thank you, you made many things clear. I have kinda used gender and sex kinda interchangably, because in my native tounge, there is no separation. Also, most people LGBTQIA+ representation in media here mostly focused on the sex part. What you refered to as gender in your reply, is what i refered to as "orientation" in my post, mostly because that is how I have understood geneder like that till today - How do you want to be addressed, and for example, how do you dress up.

You’ve probably never felt the need to do this because (as you state) you’re male and you identify as male and your outward appearance is male

I want to ask one more thing, I have never asked/thought of my gender. When you say "you identify as male", I do not know what that means, what does it mean to identify as a male or female or something else. As I wrote above, in my native tounge, there is no separation.

so I’m going to assume you’ve never had anyone misgender you, but not everyone is so lucky - or privileged, you might say.

As I said, I understand that I am privileged. Though I have been misgendered, mostly because my voice is quite shrill, and people often confuse me of being feminine over phones.

  • I said India, because I am an Indian, and our government also does use whatsapp. In some way, our countries have some kinship

edit - I just checked context of replies, and you said wrong continent for brazil, but not for me, is it because I atleast got the continent right? if so, let me guess again, is your country in indian subcontinent, or south east asia in general?

  • considering it is made by sigma aldrich, atleast a 10x markup plus your first born child

  • India

  • I do not think it is a good idea to prepare a vm image and install it as iso. it can be done afaik, but not a great idea. Assuming he (your dad) already has a ubuntu system (presumably some lts, i am asssuming something like 1604, 1804 or 2004) then it is easier to just upgrade the system. I know you said that he has forgotten to upgrade, so i would ask him to somehow send you a photo of what he has installed right now (can be hard, but maybe just asking what animal is present on the wallpaper (if he uses the default one that ubuntu uses) can help. even look of top bar or icons can help to get the age. Afaik, ubuntu upgrade paths are relatively stable, so once you know what version he uses currently, then you can install that version, and upgrade it to newest install on your system and record instructions. This would be long and tedious task. I do not use ubuntu, so i do not know what jumps can be taken (i know you can jump from 1 lts to another, something like 1804 to 2004, but can you jump 2 lts versions? some ubuntu forum or wiki post can help regarding this). Once you complete upgrades, you can record instructions and send them.

This can be a easier for following reasons -

    • he would not have to plug in usb and boot into installer mode - this can be hard if he does not know what key to press, or if he does not press it fast enough
    • you would still be using some standard installation, rather than your "custom" iso - not a big thing, but upgrades are more certain in a standard installation
    • ubuntu has snaps - I am not a big fan of snaps, but it is a good thing for likes of your dad, who would prefer to have there apps (like web browser) auto updated in background. Mint has flatpak, but by default stuff is installed as deb packages, upgrading them requires sudo password, which can be hard for your parent.

the virtual image is much larger than iso, because it is uncompressed. Isos are you compressed by something like squashfs, which prepares something like a tar or zip file, which is also mountable. Also your intial virtual file system allocated size might be larger (which would largely be empty, this would be "sparse" file). From my prior experience, you can sometimes have sparse file errors, which can cause errors at bootup, these can be benign, but may seem strange to your father.

Someone else mentioned, you can also possibly install it on a laptop, and then ship that to your father, or buy a prebuilt laptop with linux preinstalled. Nowadays, some big brands like hp/dell/lenovo also have options in there build configurators to select the operating systems, and there are also linux specific vendors (more expensive). But this option in general is expensive (because there is a laptop cost).

Also, where does your father live? If he lives somewhere maybe close to me or someone you know who can go and upgrade / install new system for him. This can be hard for logistaical reasons, or you may not be able to find someone trustworthy.

  • that explains it

  • lemmings.world or pifed.social both are general purpose, and relatively small

  • I do this. I almost always pack extra information, and then skip according to time. In case someone questions back, I say, it was back on so and so slide, you might have missed it

  • most solids and liquids are practically incompressible (when comparing with gasses). there is a relationship between bulk compressibility, shear stress and youngs modulus for solids, which can be extended for liquids. It does not work for gasses

  • they all are chronically ill, they will die, just in some time

  • you are not adding enough water, add more

  • how are we quantising water shape (droplet vs jet)? Is it amount of pee generated/unit amount of time or something similar?

  • Not a female, and nowhere close to being as good as you described her, but if you can convey it to her, please do - practically no one cares (maybe not the best way to put it). What I mean is, I have never looked so closely at a women (or their legs). I have other male friends, who are also attracted towards females, and they have never noticed (or at least have never discussed this detailed noticing with me). If she is uncomforable, there could be 2 possible reasons, either she thinks what others think of it, or she is worried about it from a medical prespective. I will come to latter later, but for the former, as i said, I do not think anybody really pays this close attention (at least I do not, and i consider myself as average). Maybe you would have noticed, potentially because you are their partner or close friend, but very likely even you might not have really noticed till she mentioned it to you. So please tell her, it doees not matter.

Medically, it is perfectly normal to have your veins being observable. My guess is that probably the person has really fair skin (almost white), and may not have many melanocytes (maybe genetics, or maybe some disease), and if she does not have a mild or severe reactions (for example, itchiness, or redness) to going out in sun, then her body is producing close to adequate amount of melanin. Veins do appear if the skin is thin around those portions, and skin itself is light (absorbance). If they do not have any reactions in going out, she should feel perfectly ok (tanning does not count as a reaction, that is expected, also, she may not tan much because of lack of melanin, but that is a separate thing). If she has some reactions, then she should consult some dermatoligist, and should probably start wearing some creams (some appropriate spf, sorry, I do not know much about this stuff).

TL;DR - Tell her to not care. In case of any allergies, consult a dermatologist.

  • if i am not wrong, it is a fancy nose ring. many indian traditions have some ornament worn across the nose, many times it is then stringed back to ear or hair from the sides. it is for ornamental purposes only afaik

  • i hope you stay wrong. Nothing against you, but you are the absol that has brought the bad news

  • maybe it is because being so weak, it allows things to be come together, and eventually be strong enough, by power of family.

  • i think it is 100 men and it is not going to be close. purely using humn as fodder, we can have 10-20 men kamikaze style holding/pinning down gorrila, and then ask the rest to take turn and basically throw themselves at gorrila, untill gorilla gets unconscious, and then all have to hit the vitals of gorilla.

  • this is my work. Our revious results showed correct trend, but, r^2 = 0.2. Got literally laughed at.
