  • One thing I'd like to see, which IRC already has, is ban durations. Because you're right, somebody's bad behavior might warrant me wanting to not see them in my feed, but that's not always going to warrant a lifetime band, sometimes a day or a week or a month would be enough.

  • Seriously changed my experience for the better when i changed my mindset in line with this. I don't block many people, but just knowing that i can makes my experience here so much more pleasant.

    I don't have to read or deal with people's bs if I don't want to. This is just for fun, it's not real life.

  • I have an operations-based question for you. Can you recoup the cost of staff time and materials for cleaning cassettes, or possibly re-recording them (if you did that or provided that as a service)?

    Also, as somebody who used to love listening to cassettes in a car that had a tape deck, I would totally be interested in buying new cassettes of modern music. Are there any self-made cassettes that you could sell without getting in legal trouble? Like music that is released under creative commons or that's in public domain?

    Maybe you could have a DIY tape creation station where somebody buys a CD from you, uses your tape deck to copy it onto a blank cassette, and then sells you back the CD?

    It probably wouldn't make a lawyer happy i bet!

    I keep a spreadsheet of the different important servers, their ip addresses, and notes in my nextcloud.

    In each of my admin home folders, i have an info.txt where I write notes to myself.

    Someday I'll create a network diagram...

    So I have to chuckle when I hear anyone waxing romantic about the vibe of those old pocket-cam photos, because their grainy, blurry, flat shots were a serious source of discontent back in the day. The search for the least-worst image quality was the entire reason I had a job.

    I don't encourage my friends anything -- maybe im not close like that.

    For my parents, i install firefox with ublock and say, ok, now use the web with no ads.

    Then when they use chrome for something (usually its superior form autofill abilities or website compatibility) they ask me why they have ads, or phishing attempts, and I tell them it is because they are on chrome, and to use firefox if they don't need chrome that instant.
