    On the other hand here's a Maggat "scientist" in a red hat from Bob Jones university with a Ph.D in religious studies and geology who thinks everything is okay.

    There's nothing to indicate any human experience is not the result of biochemical processes and that brain death doesn't end consciousness.

    I really hate the perspective that if someone doesn't like life, they must be crazy... because (religious reason, spiritual reason, societal obligation reason, etc).

    Life can be bleak and sometimes people make a rational calculation that the pleasure isn't worth the pain. Suicides make people still alive sad so that's why they are socially unacceptable, but people should be able to make choices without automatically being deemed crazy.

  • Suicide attempts are a mental health crisis. In that moment that person is not of a sound mind and incapable of making that decision.

    I disagree. Life can be awful and people can make rational decisions to die.

    "Mental health crisis" and "incapable of making that decision" just are ways of saying "this person must be forced to give money to the mental health system through compliance with druggings and forced in-patient care that they will be billed for."

    You're likely part of the mental health industry. Only one of "them" would think 30K in additional debt (paid to mental health workers/doctors) is always better than death.

  • I am not a communist, and fear communism, but this person has a valid and logical point. Democrats are mostly unelectable because of their anti-gun agenda and when they occasionally win elections they don't really change anything. Most of the Democrats in office are rich.

    AOC and Bernie are still promoting this party of malaise and promises.

    That being said, we've never seen AOC rule the country. I don't vote for anti-gun politiicans but gosh, she sure is likable. And genuine.

  • Many men look at the pain/reward ratio and it's not actually worth it. People are rational: toiling away to at best afford a tiny apartment that takes up half your salary while the other half is spent on food is not alluring. Ironically, this guy is in a position to alter society so the rewards are not so small and instead he chooses moral condemnation as the tool to motivate, as though his castigation will change the equation. He may be an idiot or may be very intelligent and just exploiting the system by saying what people want to hear to distract from the real problem.

  • KryptKey is much easier than Kleopatra. It works as a keyboard and encrypts and decrypts on the fly. It's a powerful local too that's very usable. Kleopatra is great for people who can learn the OPSEC but it may not be great for have a quick back and forth text message discussion.

    It's better to use SXC to protect metadata or Signal (if they can't get in) to protect metadata. Texts show who is chatting with who. PGP also has a more identifiable structure and they could ban PGP and then scan for it easily based on PGP headers. KryptKey is more censorship resistant because the outputs can't be scanned for as easily since data can be encrypted with normal words.

  • I get the point but this post is more geared towards communities who could be targeted by ice and may/may not get a tip-off ice is in the area

    The post is also geared towards a future in which trans people are rounded up for required mental health assesments, and since definitions of mental health disorders are so arbitrary and often have psuedoscientific reasons for their criteria, that would be scary for trans people.

    Protesting is great, but the religious idiots outnumber the nonreligious idiots. I'm not sure signs and yelling will deprogram cult members.

  • Most people are attracted to others or not attracted to other based on visual information and pheromone information. Then secondarily, people become more or less attracted to someone based on personality.

    So if your personality is not dominant and comes across as submissive or mild, that really probably has zero impact at all on the initial attraction of others.

  • I would argue that defining mental illness by the DSM-6 is a really bad way of defining mental illness.

    The same DSM previously said homosexuality and female hysteria were illnesses, and still causes black people to be diagnosed more frequently as anti-social because black children get labeled with conduct disorders more often that white children (quite likely due to racism), and still categories people as narcissistic based on a Greek myth. The DSM is so malleable and fluid because it was never based on science to begin with. Yes, these writers are oracles and soothsayers with Ph.D's, but anyone with enough time and money can buy credits for such an unrigorous "scientific" discipline.

    It's really mostly only useful as an insurance billing tool, and one day there will be universal health care and hopefully the whole glossary of tripe can be forgotten, stored in the rare books section next to the textbooks about phrenology.
