  • Synchronicity. Just found this love letter to LaTeX.

  • Yes, orange juice is more expensive, but apple juice is on par cost wise, so it makes sense to consider taxing it.

12 fl oz of coke has 39 grams of sugar. 12oz of apple juice has 35g of sugar. Less, but about the same.

So the question comes down to is sucrose really that much worse for you than fructose.

  • Judging from your smug sense of superiority, I'm going to guess it's Sam Harris' Making Sense community?

  • Elsewhere?

  • My experience with emotional numbing from prescribed psychotropics was pretty awful. It was just like being in a waiting room forever.

I only got better when I walked away from seeing my problems through the lens of psychiatry and found ways to accept myself for who I was.

  • Wait...so we... w-w-w-won?

  • Apple Juice is $3.39 for 64 oz.. Coke is $3.69 for 2L--about 68oz; essentially the same price.

I think what's happening here is that the natural health halo of fruit juice is absolutely short circuiting your mind.

Ask yourself: if you added the same nutrients that are in juice to coca cola, would coca cola now be "healthy"?

  • What is the point of writing better software when the entire ecosystem is built around Microsoft? Though certainly Zoom ate Skype's lunch, and Slack is better than Teams... but maybe e-mail is too core a functionality, and, let's face it, there's old guys at the top that will fire their entire IT department before they get rid of their precious outlook. All my PST files for the last 20 years are on there! I have 200 inboxes and 400 rules!

Interesting thoughts on Word. I just know for what most people use it for--documents--it's perfectly fine. It drives me up the wall that people pay for 365 subscriptions just so they can do that.

  • Assassination potential is also very promising. A slow moving cockroach could easily get past a Holtzman shield.

  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook

Of those four, only Outlook really could have used some changes. The other three were perfected 20 years ago. And how do you improve perfection? You can only make it worse.

  • So if we added some vitamins to Coca Cola, should we drop the tax?

  • Nope. Headset has a motions sensors and gyros and orients to the environment using its built-in cameras. The wands have lights tracked by the headset cameras as well as their own gyros. Works pretty well. I think the wands can lose tracking from the camera if they're down by your waist, but the gyros take over at that point and you're probably just pointing them around down there.

The original Rift and Vive both had external doodads you had to deal with, but the Quest is completely self contained.

  • Dear Mr. Huang,

I have a proposal that will make your company a lot of money. In fact, I guarantee this deal will will increase NVIDIA's revenue by 19 billion USD.

All you have to do is invest 20 billion in my company, Al Is Awesome, LLC, and I will purchase 19 billion worth of NVIDIA cards to get my project off the ground.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely,

SchipelborpCEO, Founder, Al Is Awesome, LLC

  • Probably not immediately, but they're both on Snapdragon ARM chips, so very possibly in the future.

  • Like much neurochemistry, this information is practically useless--as pointed out in the article. Increasing Orexin does not increase motivation, though removing does decrease motivation.

The hope is that by learning what chemicals are associated with what brain states, we can chemically influence the brain into these states. But that's not how any of it works. The brain responds to the totality of the situation, and adapts in response to the environment. The neurotoxins are the result, not the cause.

Adding a chemical to the brain has the same logic as adding smoke to logs in the hope you get heat.

  • Yes. I played Half Life Alex via my wifi, even.
