  • Agreed. For the life of me I can't figure out why Amazon bought rights to the Lord of The Rings for their 5-season epic instead of something like Jonathan Livingstone Seagull, which offers a much richer text and history.

    I don't have any friends at the moment and have not for a long time because I find most people aren't interested in friendship at all; they are interested in passing the time and think friends are a form of entertainment. At best, romance and family are the only things that matter to them. Friends are disposable.

    Or, if they are interested in friendship, it is after a perilous courtship period with no guarantee at the end.

    I would caution you about this, though:

    If you just push someone away all of the time and leave them in dormancy where their mind tends to wander into places it shouldn’t [...]

    Your friends are not responsible for where your mind goes. You can fault them for not being supportive, sure, but your mind is 100% your responsibility, and if you can't find friends to help you, try to figure something else out.

  • The situation is: I might be tempted to watch a movie to find out what happens, but if I know what happens, that particular appeal is not there. I still might go see the movie, but I have one fewer reason to do so.

    And I'm kind of in the middle on this. There are spoiler-paranoiacs that seemingly ONLY watch things to see what happens, and, frankly, I wish they'd limit themselves to watching sports because writers and producers twist their stories into incomprehensible knots trying to keep these people guessing (looking at you, Westworld Season 2+).

  • 3 was revolutionary, Vice City was solid... I kind of lost interest after that, but the GTA games were all well received and their single-player campaigns were well done, though Rockstar absolutely did soak their online players.

    It might not be your cup of tea, but they were trying to provide value to the players. The question is if GTA6 will be an highly enshittified cash grab like everything else has become.

    Even if you buy a disc, that does not guarantee you can play the game in the future. Often games have to be authenticated on install, and if that authenticating server is no longer online, you can't play the game--even if you have all the files required to play it.

    Europe had a whole "Stop Killing Games" initiative that would require companies to unlock games they are no longer supporting, but that mysteriously vanished from the legislative docket after meetings with game companies that organizers weren't invited to.

    Stay mad, but you need to be mad at the right things.

    And what you are talking about is called the welfare trap. That is if, if you make $50 more than the benefit amount, you can lose $80 worth of benefits, therefore it's better not to make that extra $50. But even if you break even, it's discouraging. Why are you busting your hump to stay in the same situation? If the work is satisfying or can lead to advancement, it's worth it, but most low wage jobs don´t fit into that category.
