  • Not sure what you mean. But for anyone that cares enough to pay attention to likes and dislikes, there it is.

    I think the front end of YT, the dislike button exists purely for algorithmic purposes these days; both macro and micro curating.

    But the foundation of public ratings is the ad populum fallacy.

    Seriously, I don't see what data centres give their hosts. They barely require a workforce after setup, they rip through resources, they fuck with the environment, they offer no municipal services, and they're eyesores. At best they're a form of property tax revenue and I guess rates revenue.

  • Ah, that should make things easy. I grow what works in my climate (which is fortunately Mediterranean, so a lot) and doesn't require much effort. It's nice being away from home for weeks on end and returning to thriving plants. Hydro will give you that but for whatever climate you want.

  • In my experiences, it's Windows Update in the background causing the lag. Doing it's shitfuckery things, planting it's shitfuckery seeds, waiting for restart season to trigger the bloom...

    It is funny though, "Updates! You need to restart!"

    I know it's a future me problem, but I'm in Windows for work like once a month these days. That's fine.

  • The is awesome in one way, but terrible in others. Anthropic and OpenAI can afford this (bullshit!) but their latest open source competitors cannot. In a way, it may be helping lock in monopolies if open source can't cut them down a bit first. It should go a step further by limiting companies from dominating the industry in nations they aren't even based in. Currently, it's accepting that data centres owned by big companies/corporations is how the AI industry is and will be.

    Sure it's not what they wanted, but sweeping in and locking down the industry in Australia will be great for their shaky plans for IPO.

    I'm no lawmaker or expert, but I see this as important as anything else the Australian government thinks it's thought of.
