  • So that's why I occasionally dozed off in there, despite taking ADHD medication and having plenty of sleep!

Also, it explains the microphone I found in my alarm clock years later.

Note: I really did find a microphone in my alarm clock years later! It had its own battery and was not spliced into the incoming power, which was, well... Amateurish!

Somewhere, out there, is hundreds of hours of audio recordings of me snoring. Or perhaps, the only remaining evidence of my superpower.

  • I find this title a bit strange * HIGH FREQUENCY

  • Ever see someone using Google and cringe? People who have experience getting AI to do what they want feel the same when they see normies writing their prompts.

  • I have ADHD, which means I have to go to a psychiatrist every three months to refill my prescription. It's silly, really but required by law.

Before he died suddenly of an aneurysm, my former psychiatrist was fascinated with me. He said it was because I'm always so jovial... Which I understand now is something of an oddity at a psychiatrist's office 🤣

Anyway, because if this, he would often give me tests and puzzles to develop "a baseline". Apparently so he wouldn't lose his own mind from the more extreme patients he often dealt with 😁

I signed his forms (it was all above board) and he'd test my reaction time, run me through various questionaires about my thoughts, and time how long it would take me to solve simple puzzles. Only challenging one was one of those "fold the boxes in your mind" tests which I assume I aced (that's my jam!)

I didn't mind at all! It was actually quite fun working with his staff and psychiatrists in training who were the ones who were always there, recording the results. I would make jokes like, "I've been practicing my jumping!" Then pretend to be disappointed that they were only going to ask me questions and not test my jumping ability.

I was the lab rat. Probably the control lab rat but it was still fun and interesting. The best perk was that when I walked into his office, the receptionist would notice me and send me right to the back. No matter how many people were sitting there, waiting.

There were snacks, but only for children ☹️

Now that I think about it, the various tests and questions could've been a ruse! They were actually testing my willpower, sitting next to bowls of mini packages of M&Ms and Reese's the entire time! 🤔

    Now I'm imagining his notes:

"Subject 294 still hasn't taken or attempted to steal any candy. Despite timing his appointment precisely around lunch time and keeping him here for an extra half an hour. He's still laughing and joking with the staff. I may have to order an ice cream machine."

  • Did I miss some memo or something? Are we mad at this style of comic right now for some reason?

I've got my pitchfork downvote ready, just give me a good reason 👍

I honestly don't see what's wrong with this particular comic. It's just a silly comic about a common problem with "free" games.

  • I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask, "why can't inmates have a computer?"

I mean, if it's not hooked up to the Internet, who cares? It's not a dangerous weapon. It's basically a fancy book and writing device. Maybe some games.

If prisoners are looking at porn and playing offline computer games why does that matter? They're not out in society committing crimes. They're just entertaining themselves with harmless activities.

I guess I'm firmly in the camp of, "the reason to put someone in prison is because they couldn't behave out in society" (for whatever reason/crime). Not to torture them with boredom for n months/years.

If someone is a career criminal, I have zero faith in the system to "reform" them. It assumes there's something wrong with them that needs to be fixed. When everyone knows that there's loads of people in prison that don't belong there. That are absolutely zero danger to society.

IMHO, a "reformed" prisoner is one that was never going to commit the same crimes again anyway. When the system makes such claims it's just patting itself on the back, trying to justify its existence.

Example: Like we're going to "reform" someone who got addicted to pain killers. As if it was a simple behavioral problem.

  • Jokes on us: Because of the gravity issue, alien life on such planets jumps right to stargate technology.

"They spent almost a thousand years fooling around with rockets!"

  • Remember, kids: If we taught you how to protect your privacy and recover from things like this, you'd also learn how to get around the censorship we impose upon you so stay in the dark and suffer.

  • The real question: Why didn't she just make a new Discord account? It's free and stupidly easy.

It's not that hard to contact your old friends and tell them your account was hacked. In fact, that happens all the time.

  • "Here's a picture of me and my child, next to $12,000 worth of drinks and a fruity thing made by my personal chef that gets paid over $200k/year out of my personal money vault."

  • I feel it is important to point out that a third world economy is not necessary for things like that!

  • The AI features are actually pretty cool!

Using a local AI model (running on your own GPU), you can:

    • Drag files on to the "AI bar" to bring them into the context of a prompt.
    • Tell it to perform actions like, "merge these two PDF files."
    • Use it to search your filesystem, "find pictures of spiders."
    • Ask it to find system settings or tell it to change them, "turn on dark mode."

It supports voice and probably visual (e.g. with a webcam) I think.

Best of all: It doesn't send any of that to some data center in the cloud! I mean, you can configure it to do that but you can just as easily use say, qwen3.5.

Note: It's not realistic to expect to be able to use local models if you have less than 16GB of VRAM (in your GPU). I mean, some 8-billion parameter model will work with say, 8GB but you're not going to be satisfied with the results most of the time 🤷

  • No one will believe you, so they'll call it "sock therapy."

  • American, here. I'm with them! Sort of...

Far too many American parents insist their kids use "please and thank you" for too many things. A classic example:

Kid: "Can you pass the butter?" (this is the natural state of American children... Probably all children, actually)

Parent, semi-scolding: "Can you please pass the butter!"

...or the worse, passive-aggressive form: "Please and thank you, (child)!"

I had this happen to me when I was a kid and my friends had it happen to them. I've witnessed it so many times—even as an adult—yet... It always felt wrong.

Normal people—equals in butter rights—don't communicate like that.

Adult: "Can you pass the butter?"

    Adult nearest the butter: "Here..."

There's another, more efficient form that seems to be most common in the Northeastern US, especially with men: (just passes the butter without saying anything at all)

Truly efficient men—who may have never met before that moment—can communicate a butter request and reply to another man without even speaking. A look, with an upward nod and a follow-up downward nod from the guy closest to the butter is all these truly efficient communicators need.

The most efficient families—when it's only adults present, performing their secret, adults-only rituals—tend to shorten it to the tiniest of requests, "Butter?" (points at butter)

Excessive politeness always feels fake and rotten to me. "Please"—from children—should be reserved for actual begging, damnit! With wide eyes and maybe some tears! Anything less feels like bad acting or an unnecessary, inauthentic ritual.

Politeness shouldn't be ritual! It should be something you do because you're paying attention and you're genuinely invested in the concept of feeling sorry about inconveniencing another person with your request. If there's no inconvenience—such as passing the butter—what's the point?

Please and thank you for reading my rant.
